Question Climate CNRTL panel lights

Hey, just wondering how i can change the lights in the climate control? I was trying to take out the whole unit, but only got 1 harness to unplug. the other one goes all the way in the back. Do i need to get it from the behind the cluster? And is there anyway to take off the plastic in the front so i dont have to take out the whole unit to change the lights.

Thanx

The other harness goes up behind the dash- it plugs in just behind the windshield and is a major pain to get to.
As for the lights, are you talking about the backlights for the graphics? I know the hot/cold arrows light up, but my logicon has never been backlit behind the symbols for defrost, recirc, etc. Not sure if they were ever backlit- but it is a pain if you want to change from vent to defrost, say, at night. I just had to memorize the positions.

That is a pretty simple fix once the Logicon is out.

But yes the logicon generally needs to come out and be dis-assembled to access the lights

i took mine out and havent put it back in because i dread getting that plug back in behind the cluster. it took me 10 minutes to get my hand back there far enough to get it unplugged, another 10 minutes to get my arm unstuck and i dont see how there is any possible way to get it plugged back in without taking almost everything out that is in the way. my arm was in past my elbow lol, it was the most frustrating thing ive ever done to my car.

Well some people like pulling the top dash panel (the one with the vents) to get to the 3rd Logicon plug, but I personallay think that through the gauges is by far the easiest way.

You only have to take out the surround trim and loosen the logicon.Unplug both plugs, a small one and a large one,Then you will be able to move the logicon further out.Unbolt the 4 screws that hold the white base to the black plastic one.Pull the black one out and unplug the two small plugs within the unit. The two light bulbs have to be specially ordered at Mazda. They are 5.95 us each. They come out the same way as the instrument panel.

There is only enough room if the clip on the third plug is already been undone (as in the logicon has been removed before). In the stock setup from the factory there will not be enough slack to get the logicon out more than to just reach around to get to the first two plugs.

And just replacing the two light bulbs will not solve the problem of the indicators not working. That will require resoldering of the control board.

BTW: I do have already resoldered control boards available on my website with your choice of indicator light colors, for those not wanting to mess with re-soldering, or wanting to change the colors of the indicators.

The bulbs in the face are removeable. FYI, if you run a red bulb or LED behind the stock orange, it'll come out red when illuminated at night.
