as far as the PD goes, it was probably unrelated and a coincidence.

Clicking? is it like, a creaking?

i know that on S4's the ball joints were not integrated into the axle and sometimes went bad. My 88 is making a "creaking" when i turn the wheel now, and i assume its the balljoints.

On your S5 however... i dont kno man maybe try to define the noise it is making a little bit better. Is it at all ranges of steering? both directions? Car (Power Steering) on/off? Hot/Cold/All the time?

Has the noise just started as the cold weather has set it? I live in NJ and mine does the same when the weather is cold. The consensus of opinions seems to be that it's the strut-top bearings. Sounds like a vampire's coffin opening in a cheap horror movie, right? That's the strut top bearing.

Yes its either your top strut mount or your ball joint. I had the same thing happen to my car but put gpsport coilovers that came with top camber adjusters and got new ball joints at the same time because my bushings on them where bad. I cant say which of the two it is because i did both at the same time. It wouldnt be the wheel bearing because it would make the same noice if you went straight as well.
