When "exactly" does it occur? Oh and just cuz the starter is new does not mean it is free from defects.

You turn the key to on and you hear click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, and the key is to ON but not to START? And your not doing anything? Just sitting there with the key to ON but NOT start?

My BAC was doing this the other day. Not sure why, but after I started the car it went away.
Check your BAC.

This may be completely off, but my 86 made a constant tick tick or click click sound for like a month. One night I opened the hood and saw that it was sparking going from the coil to a ground point. lol - was a bad spark plug wire.

As for the the original question. I've read posts about the some fuel cut switch (for car rollovrs or some crap) up neer the airbox that will click when it cuts off. Could it be that?

Or... is is a really loud click click click. OR a faint tick tick tick
