Clicking from front end

Hey Guys....

Today i sprayed my pully's with some good 'ol WD-40 because it sounded like they needed it.... so i sprayed them, the "rough" sound went away and i went to work, sounded like a dream, so i start my car after work and notice a clicking, i open the hood and was like "wtf is that" and you can hear it from outside, if i rev the engine from the bay it goes away or hides it well.... but when i'm outside, you can hear it, with hood down too, so i drove home, turned the car off, went inside to get my dad to listen and see what he thinks, it didnt do it, i was like "wtf" and my dad said i was hearing thing, but i revved the engine a bit and it came back.... what the hell is going on, i dont think WD-40 is lethal ( HAH! ), but whats going on, what do you guys thinks making the noise...?

-Anthony

When the bearings on the alternator start to go south, they click. Check the Voltage, and if it's low. The you have two signs that you have a bad alternator.

Seems to me like you have a bad bearing on one of the reciprocating accessories. Best bet will be to loosen the belts and manually tweak each pulley until you find the culpritt. One will be out of whack im sure.

I doubt it, the squeeling before probably hid the clicking noise.

Didn't know that you can spray belts with WD40, had no idea at all. I thought that they would slip more with oil, guess not.
Should you drench them or just spray them lightly?

not the belts, the pully's.... i sprayed them before work and it ran so quiet i didnt know my car was running, then i started it at work and all the sudden the clicking came.... thats why i'm so confused.... then it went away and now it's quieter then before and nearly absent.... the more i think about it the more i get confused and frusterated....

muhahaha WD-40 is EVIL.. its actually a degreaser you will strip any grease/lube in your pulleys.. dont believe me? ever get your hands oily then .... put "wud fo"(WD-40) on your hands the oil will run right off..then the wd-40 goes away. chances are the clicking is some flatened bearing running around in your pulleys. wd-40 is last ditch for dirty bicycle chains and loosening bolts thats about the only good use i have found for it. pulleys are a dime a dozen... check your valve covers make sure they are tight too (i know i know, NOT funny)

"reciprocating accessories"?

Dictonary...
Main Entry: re·cip·ro·cate
Pronunciation: ri-'si-pr&-"kAt
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): -cat·ed; -cat·ing
Date: 1607
transitive senses
1 : to give and take mutually
2 : to return in kind or degree <reciprocate a compliment gracefully>
intransitive senses
1 : to make a return for something <we hope to reciprocate for your kindness>
2 : to move forward and backward alternately <a reciprocating valve>
- re·cip·ro·ca·tor /-"kA-t&r/ noun

Sorry about having to be the English police, but reciprocate is a word that doesn't belong here.

Okay, so lets say rotating assembly, lmao. If you had to you could run some units in reverse, so they could quite possibly reciprocate(was wrong word)...... but the likely better term since you were so cordial would be , "Please refrain from reciprocating things in an out of your cavities, to keep yourself from coming off like an ***."

The only way you can tell if a bearing on a pulley is bad is to pull the belts off and manually feel which one went to hell..., the point was it ran rough, got lubed , now some of those lubed bearings are binding. Likely

Swapping belts wont do anything, they are working... It is tough w/o hearing up close. You could feasbly by a cheap mechanics stethascope and put the tip on the given accessories themselves and the clicking will stand out to the point of locating the problem. Check the alternator first for the source of the clicking.

One more note, external lubrication of the "pullies" is not a common practice, dressing the belts is one thing, but no need to lube self contained bearings that just plain fail over time.

you know if you get a loud enough exhaust you won't be able to hear that noise any more Anyways I think you should take all your pullies off except your alternator pully and see if the noise is there. If the noise isn't then put each one back on and see witch one causes the noise and replace that pully. Good luck man!

Your profile says you have an N/A. Look at the black piece on your 5th and 6th port actuators rods. If the actuators are a little stuck the black piece can make a noticeable rattling noise.
The picture below has the part i'm talking about.
