The pilot bearing seal has a rubber side and metal side.

Which way does the rubber side go, towards the bearing or towards the transmission?

thanks

You need to pay attention to WHEN it's whining: clutch in, clutch out, etc. Many times guys have thought it was a pilot or throwout bearing making noise, when it's actually the tranny bearing(s) making the noise. If the clutch is out (disengaged), it's NOT the pilot or throwout bearings- neither are moving at that point (in the pilot bearing's case, relative to the tranny input shaft anyway), unless something is installed incorrectly.

ah yes i did a lil search (duh) here we go. I think just having a good release bearing on my car made it whine more. I have a leaking speedo gear for a while now and may have run it low on fluid once or twice and I think that has affected my bearings inside the tranny mainly my input shaft bearing.
