Cleaning Oil Cooler?
Whats the best way to clean the oil cooler?
Should I just take it to a radiator shop or some place and have it professionally done?
I want it cleaned before I put the new engine in my car.
Thanks
Mike

I spoke to one of the dealers of KOYO radiators and i asked them about cleaning my oil cooler. They said that they cant because the solution where they soak radiators are only for non aluminum. THey told me to just take it to one of those coin op car wash and pressure clean it!

Jeez, that guy must be stuck in the past; most new radiators are aluminium these days!
A decent radiator shop should be able to flush an oil cooler. BUT... the FC oil cooler has a thermostat built into it that doesn't open (to flow oil throught the core) until the oil heats up. So if you flush it with the thermostat closed you'll just be flushing one end tank! This thermostat is removable, just take it out before you take it to get done. See the FSM for details on testing the thermostat while it's out.

Haven't we ALL heard this
When the car is at rest. The thermostat is sitting on the open position. This means cold oil flows in the endtank and back into the engine. If you take the thermostat out. You have accomplished nothing. Oil now flows into the end tank and out to the engine.
Chances are your local radatior shop will not do it right. I took it to radatior shops and BOTH times they did NOTHING to plug the hole the thermostat closes.
When your oil gets hot enough the thermostat opens and plugs the small hole. This forces oil through the oil cooler. So, if you do not plug this hole your oil cooler will not be flushed. Simply sticking something in a hose hole and spraying in there will not flush it.

Here is my post on the subject. If you don't plug the hole you are wasting your time in the flush.
