clean intercooler w/ gasoline?

I read on 1300cc.com that you could run gasoline through your intercooler to clean it out. I thought it sounded weird. So I searched on cleaning parts but didn't come up with much useful info. Since I am going to have the intake manifold, turbo and exhaust manifolds off this weekend, I was wondering what parts should be cleaned inside and out, and what stuff works well for cleaning them. This is on a '88 S4 TII. Thanks.

gas is a very good solvent for junk particles that might get caught up in the fins. Just dont play with matches!

When you guys use gas what octane do you use? Does the higher octane clean better or no? Also, so you use gas from a cheapee station or name brand?

For cleaning purposes, any gasoline will do.

I used gasoline to remove 15 year-old glue from the doors of my old Jetta (lady still had those plastic door-edge protectors on it!) when simple green worked but required a TON of elbow grease. With gas, it came right off.

I have NEVER seen a dirty (on the inside) FC intercooler, though, so youmight not need to worry about it.

I've got like 5 of them in my garage, and they're all clean inside.
