Clattering hood past ~85 MPH

especially noticeable on the highway...

whenever I go past 85 or so, the hood bounces up and down a lot (visable from the interior) and it makes a clattering noise. Similar to banging 2 pieces of metal together. What causes this?

How can I get my hood to be stiffer?

Anyone?

are the rubber bumpers under the hood still there? The hood has 5 pivot points. The latch, 2 hinges, and rubber bumpers.

Readjust your hood latch in the front - it might be too loose.

I know on my car it's the hinges at the back, they have come a little loose at the point where the arms connect and it lets the back of the hood smash around a bit. You could go to the junkyard and see if they have some stiffer ones

If it's loose on the rear corners of the hood, something is drastically wrong.&nbsp There are two 10mm bolts on each side that secure the hood to the hinge.&nbsp Try and tighten these down FIRST before replacing anything...

Already done, that was the first thing I checked those bolts are tight and the arm doesn't move. The only thing that holds them together is a plastic "bolt". The plastic either wears or stretches and leaves a little bit of room for the hood to move.

That's weird - are you saying that the fasteners are literally made out of plastic or something non-metal?

The hood bolts should be typical flange-head 10mm head bolts, about 3/4" long.&nbsp There is an insert inside the "mount structure" that the bolts actually secures to - the bolts doesn't actually thread into the hood itseld.

hmmm, well are we talking about the same thing? The part I am talking about has two metal brackets secured together on one end (by what I think is a Plastic fastener, I'm not sure it might not be plastic I can't remember) and then there are two holes in each arm, 2 bolts that go into the hood and 2 right beside the quarter panel.
