Cheep and/or Easy HP

Hey i just became a rx-7 owner (88 gtu). I don't know much about the wankle engines and getting hp. Is there any easy or cheap ways or anyway at all to get good amount of hp. Or is it just better to drop turbo engine in.

Thank you,
Zach

i'm tired of hearing this too. they (newer guys) make it sound like it's as easy as doing it in one day. if you really want a turbo, go out and buy a TII, it's much cheaper

to answer the question though, no there is no 'magic' parts you can add or remove to gain abunch of hp.

i agree headers and exhaust are great for the rx7, they hate back pressure so you need to make it as free flowing as possible. they even make a CAI now for the rx7 at www.aztechrotary.com. good luck with the 7

Ive seen headers add 31hp on the dyno. this was on an 86 base with magnaflow mufflers(stock Y), an air filter, gutted cat and over 212k miles on the clock(no engine history though) before the headers went on. Almost a magic part.

Also upgrade your suspension, this will make you faster in the corners, where it matters.

50 bucks says I'll have mine on the street in one day when my front clip comes in.

oh, and yes, if you want a turbo on your car, go buy a damn T2, I'm sick of seeing this "I wanna convert my na to a turbo!!"

I'm doing the conversion because I wanted a convertible (which I bought), but they didn't come with a turbo (which I also wanted).

that makes good sense if you want a TII convertible, the end product would be pretty cool. a whole front clip would be a different story on the amount of work, but it's these people with thier abused engines that are going to 'slap a turbo on' that i'm tired of seeing come and go constantly. ok my rants over

ok... i find that a little interesting. I have a 88 with the turbo 2 brakes and supention (i think thas correct). I paid a 1k for this. A new car (turbo 2) will cost some big money, and this is for a car with an engine already beat the **** out of (unless your talking more $$). So based on my knowlege (limited), it is much more to buy a whole new car. Also i am a firm beliver that the more you work on the car the more respect you have for it (no one said it would take a day).

first off, i'm not flaming ya..
i doubt you have turboII suspension, but if you did, its probably so old its dead anyways and if its aftermarket parts than i doubt they'd be different (performance-wise). i'm not even sure if T2 stuff bolts right up.
a turbo2 doesnt cost "big money" by any means. not to mention it'd come with the drivetrain (engine/tranny/driveshaft/diff/halfshafts). that saves some money. also, it depends on if you plan to go standalone or not. if not, ecu, wiring harness, sensors.
there are quite a few write-ups on N/A >> Turbo, so its up to you whether its worth the time, money, and hours looking for parts or if selling the car sounds ideal.
