make sure it idles. and when you romp the gas, watch for smoke to come out of the exhaust when you come back down to a stop. mine did this when i bought it (i didnt notice it) then i got home with it and i ended up replacing my turbo (blown turbine)

osiris7,

Hey your going to love the difference between the TII and NAs. Nothing like having power in all gears

Are you looking at a Series IV or V TII?

As usual, compression test by the local mazda dealership. After that make sure it boosts fine, handles good, no rust, no frame damage, all A arms & suspension pieces are there, check for rust in the spare tire compartment, etc..

expect the usual stuff - sticky sunroof, wipers work on medium only, etc..

How many miles are on the car and engine?

Check for excessive shaft play on the compressor...

yeah, if you get smoke when you get back to idle, it probably has a blown turbine, which pretty much means new turbo. what does rust in the spare tire compartment mean?

It's a quick way to tell if the car was ever in a minor fender bender. Chances are if the drain plug in the rear is missing or loose or you see "waivyness" in the compartment, it was hit.
