Thumbs down Check list for my tune up... Need advice!

Ok guys been doing some more searching and need your opinion on how to get better mpg! (yes ive done a search) So far this is the list I've come up with to do in order to get my car some better gas mileage...

1) NGK Spark Plugs
2) Spark Plug Wires
3) O2 Sensor
4) Apexi SAFC
5) MSD Ignition - MSD 6BTM

Not too sure how much the MSD ignition will help... just saw someone mention it somewhere when I searched... Can anyone give me any more info on this? What it is, what is does, etc... Also if theres anything else I should add to the list? Is there an aftermarket O2 sensor that is better than say, a stock sensor? Thanks in advance guys

Edit : Also can someone help me find which MSD ignition I should get? Their webpage isnt too informative...

Hey Etrips, i also have a 87 tii. About a month ago i finally figured out what made my gas mileage improve significately. I was getting like 200 miles per tank, and i wasn't pushing my car, but i also noticed that when i was pushing my car i got about the same. Secondly, i realize the s4's have a narrow band tps, and that somewhere past 50% it automatically goes into full throttle. Lastly and probably the most important is the way you accelerate the car. I used to tap the gas as opposed to holding it there. If you don't hold the accelerator, you won't let the computer go into "closed loop" mode, and it will dump as much gas as it can. Now, with this in mind i get like 300 miles to the tank.

Two cents

If you still have your emissions hooked up: Check all your Vac hoses.

I'd replace your heater hoses too. I took the VDI manifold off one day, and the hose going from the rear housing to the throttle body looked like it was about to just fall apart.

Full Tune up?
All fluids.... oil filter and clean the oil level sensor while you're at it. More than likely its gummed up. Fuel filter. Clean the fuel "sock" (inside the tank/pump). Check the Differential fluid too. If you've got the time, do some grounding work too. Makes a much nicer idle, and may get rid of any hesitations you have (including the most common 3800 when the secondaries kick in.

mods in siggy on first post, no emissions :P Thought the common 3800rpm hesitation was due to poor solenoid connections? Regardless I dont have that Alright cool, got more stuff to do to burn my money up
