check engine light??
first off, i HATE idiot lights....
anyway, my check engine light is coming on in a wierd place.
It will only come on if i say floor to 4, 5 6k in 3rd or 4th or whatever gear but then leave in gear and let the rpms drop, then the idiot light comes on, as soon as I give it gas again, its gone.
Basically, if im in 4th, i can floor it the 5k then just leave it in fourth at 5k and let my foot off the gas and let the engine slow me down keeping it in gear and thats when it will come on......then if i give it gas again, its gone?? something with decceleration???
i dunno....
any ideas?

Hey, what codes have you got stored in the ECU? This may point to the problem. Readout instructions are at the following site:

I'll bet the code will show the oxygen sensor going **** up. Just came back from a trip to Corpus. I have the home made code checker with the two idiot lites from RAdio Shack. On numerous occasions the oxygen code would come on. I found that all it took to rid myself of this blinking lite was to step down on the throttle momentarily and resume cruise. The lite would go out for a while the come back. Sounds similar to your described problem. Mine is a 87 model. Could be my sensor or just a poorly crimped wire to it. Gonna look at it sometime. Got a roof to put on the garage before it rains tomorrow. Here's the site that I made my code checker with http://home.rmci.net/panther/ecu_codes.htm

That problem is starting to happen to me and I checked the ECU codes and i have the oxygen sensor problem.
Do i have to replace it? I've heard that if you have headers ect, you dont really need it. IS THIS CORRECT?

hi, guys, I have the same problem with my 7.
I did the turbo conversion on my n/a, with a 90 j-spec in it now.
for some reason, the check engine light comes on in about 10 minutes or exceed 60 mph, at normal temp. I have checked my TPS, changed O2 sensor, but light still comes on. one of my friend checked the code(I don't know how he did it), then he told me that was O2 problem, that is why I changed the O2 sensor, but the light still on.
any idea?

Get a digital meter and tap into the o2 wire at the ECU and while driving say in fifth gear, watch and make sure the volts are jumping on either side of approx .4 volts. Just one of many ways. Thats if you trust your friends reading of the code.

Funny, my light was doing that. Checked it and it was the TPS. Fixed the TPS and it went away. At first it was sporadic, then it never went off unless I hit the gas.
