cheap engine swap

i've got an 88 N/A rx-7 and want to do an engine swap with a turbo but don't want to spend over 2500 for the engine. what engine should i get and what would be the most easy swap.

TII longblocks (complete engine + tranny + ecu (usually)) can be had for around 1,200 bucks. Granted they're low mileage Jspecs, a rebuild is recommended but not a must. How long it will last? I ask myself that question before i go to sleep every night.

This place list Series 4 in stock. Cheapest I've found. Most other places I found want over $2000 for a front clip. I think they're in Malaysia so shipping probably a chunk of change.

You should get the ECU with the clip but the JSPEC harness won't work. I'd say even if you got a clip for less than 1500 after shipping and all the other odds and ends to complete the swap you'll still exceed 2500 dollars.

Engine swaps are almost never cheap or easy.
I'd suggest you get rid of the car.

Ebay has those motor/tranny/ECU packages that go for like $1500 + shipping. Come with a 90 day warranty too.

Good luck on getting them to honor it, though. There have been many horror stories of people getting "running" j-specs from places when it turned out they were shot in one way or another. Most of them never got a new engine or a refund, either. The only place I know of that is reliable is Corksport, and I would still rebuild it. The easiest and cheapest way is to find someone nearby thats doing a swap to a v-8 or something and is selling the whole turbo drivetrain. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen a whole lot in a given area.

Forgot to mention that thats only on the longblock not the complete motor. About them honoring it, eh. Considering that if I left them feedback saying they don't honor their warranty and the motors are trash I'll go ahead and assume that it would affect their sales quite a bit and I don't see such a big distributor letting that happen...of course thats only an assumption.

A piece of info for EBAY buyers. Paypal guarantee is GARBAGE (only 30 days, doesnt cover shipping, and on, and on)! ALWAYS use a Credit Card to pay paypal with, so that you have 90 days after you receive your statement guarantee.

I am with TED if you are looking for cheap or easy buy a running TII and part out your 7. If you enjoy working on it and it is your toy not a DD then buy a TII rebuilt from rotary resurection or Banzai or whoever you choose (do your own research) and then buy the rear end, drive shaft, Trans, axles, ECU and wiring harness from someone parting a TII but that will cost all together pretty close to $2500 if you really search hard to find the cheapest parts (note: cheapest does not equal best)

Finally: if you are looking for that stuff I can sell you most of it and you can pick it up as long as chicago suburbs is not too far for you to drive (wisconsin is big so I have no idea where you are) I even have a block that you can bring to Banzai as a core. A long block if you need it to be. This will save many dollars. I have the trans, Rear end, driveshaft, ECU, and harness but no axles. If you are serious I can give you all that and the core engine for $1200. If you need other things bring a list and a bib because I dont want you drooling on my parts inventory.
