Cheap dual headlight conversion

Cheap dual headlight conversion

I've been wanting to do a dual round headlight conversion for a long time, but not sure of what lights to buy. I just found some cheap duals tho for 35 bucks:

All you would really have to do is just cut the retractor rods, and bolt these lights in. Is this a good idea? Anyone have photoshop to see how these would look like? Will it have enough light output? IIRC the stock headlamps are 55w. And the bulbs on ebay are also 55w each. Any help greatly appreciated.

Just cutting the retractor rods won't work. Climb under your car and actually look at the headlight mechanism and you should be able to work out why.

I highly doubt those nasty looking lights would make suitable headlights. I wouldn't touch them...

Well I pm'd a couple people who have done this, and they said this is how they did it. (cut rod) what lights do you recommend then?

I would not use those lights for primary lights. If you want that design, at least buy the real "catz" brand lights that those are cheap copies of. There are some authentic ones on ebay.

Those are "FOG LIGHTS" not headlights. if you really want to build a decent functional kit I would think you will want to try to find some thing that utilizes an H4 style bulb.


Just a suggestion but I have always thought that the 2 round headlights looks bad on our cars. I always wanted to make a kit that used the headlights that are around 1/2 as tall as our stock ones. I guess it would kinda look like the sleepy eyes crap but they wouldnt shine through the FTPs because the whole headlight would be poped up it would just be smaller.

Look at how headlights on NSXs and newer corvettes look to see what I mean

you guys mean like how i did mine

they go up adn down just like stock. im wondering if i should do a write up on how to do them. this is when we were adjusting them adn thats why one side looks briter etc..

do a write up, FUc* the FTP sh*t no one even uses that, hey i thout that the blue color was only for n/a 7's? or thats just the t2 hood? naw i saw ur side mirs so u have the aero pack? or is it a real T2, if this does not make sense to u i will retype every thing, to lazy to type ever thing and spell it, aight latez

ill do a write up eventually but its a blue t2 with a black t2 hood. the car came witha steel t2 hood so i got aluminuim hood off parts car. car will be painted soon.

Like I said, go and actually look at your headlight mechanism. Get someone to flick the switch a few times and watch how it works. If you can't work out why simply cutting the rod won't work, you shouldn't be attempting this.

That's exactly how mine are, last owner did it but the wiring is so dicked, I need to clean it up.

that, looks sick i would like to do that to my car, but im not the reason is that i don't want to be a bitter and i mean i live in cali imagaine how many people are going to do that , so im just goind to leave the lights the pop-up style, and after a while , when people for get about it i will do something like that, but not use the same lights. sweet car, luv that blue mica color, hella rare

apparently you didn't read it. if you install a switch wired into the retractor fuse you can make them go up and down. my lights go up and down like normal...i've had this setup on my car for two years and its fine.

yes..i've read ur write up on this....im looking for only up 1/2 and down...not 1/2 then full then close when i turn the switch on.....i dont know if it was your video that i saw..but i didnt like the fact that it does from 1/2 to full before it goes back down completely

Too bad coz that's the way it works. Like I said before, go look at the headlight mechanism as it operates and you'll see why.
