charging ???s

so i went out to start the b2000rotery this last weekend and it ran for about 5 min and shut off on me. this has never happened before so it threw up some questions for me. i jump started it off of the wifes car and started up great. within seconds of pulling the jumper cables it quit again. so after putting the charger on the battery over night i tried again the next morning and the exact same thing. i thought that maybe the battery was bad so off to the auto parts store and i picked up a new battery for her. my question is, when the alt. goes do you guys usually end up replacing the whole alt or is the brush set going to do it? my rotery application is a bit different. i transplanted me 87 NA into a 87 B2000 pick-up. any help would be appreciated

yes its the alternator cause that used to happen to me soon as the changed the alternator it was fun the car should run when you disocnnect the wires to the battery the alternator should be able to power the whole car without the battery.

Under normal circumstances the brushes & bearings wear out at about the same time.

If you get it wet (like from cleaning the engine) blast it dry with a leaf blower or air hose.

a fully charged battery will run the car for around 2 hours with no alternater. unless it's somehow shorting something out I would say its not the problem... try unhooking it and running the car with a full battery.
