Is it really necessary? im trying to get rid of everything that I dont need, and I remember someone saying it was only for emissions. going to hurt anything taking it out?

If you rid the Charcoal Canister, don't cap off the ends either!

there is no need to take it out unless you just want a clean engine bay i personally say dont take it out that canister is there to fumigate the fuel smell take it out and youll be haufing fumes all day long feeling high like cheech and chong....

NAh it won't stink that bad. I can only notice it when i prop the hood. But besides that, i can't smell it. Not from within the cabin either.

guess I'll pull it then, doing it mostly to make everything look clean, but also to save weight :P I assume either connecting the two lines or routing the input hose to wherever the output hose now goes will do it.

The minimal amount of weight that you save is probably not worth taking it out. Bet you won't notice a difference in performance at all. If you can get the canister nice and clean, or repaint it, it doesn't even look that bad...

The canister alone doesn't weigh much but combined with the weight of other parts that aren't needed could make a difference.

The charcoal canister system weighs maybe 5 pounds...not work taking out. If the lines are dealt with improperly (ie. open vented) it can also be an explosion hazard. Leave it alone.

The charcoal canister might weigh all of 1.5lbs with mounting brackets and hoses...

One of those lines goes directly to the gas tank. Do you really want to vent the gas tank above an exhaust which commonly glows red? I know I don't. The smell can be pretty bad in some cars. For all the potential hasstle you might cause, its best to just leave well enough alone.

i was mostly joking about the weight part, but the whole danger of explosion thing changed my mind about removing it. taking it out would just clean up that back corner of the engine bay

The other thing about it being removed is that you get a fuel smell underhood with it removed... I personally get real paranoid about a fuel rail or PD leaking, so the last thing I want is a fuel smell underhood.

couldn't you remount it in the trunk? I personaly like a clean engine bay, but refuse to rid my car of the canister. But I'm asuming that it could be relocated in the trunk. I have a vert with an empty trunk so position is anywhere. The lines both run to and from the tank right? I may try this ...

Well maybe the line coming from the gas tank can be re-reouted to another spot..........

if you do not vent the gas tank, a vacuum will be created when the fuel is pumped out. If you're gonna take the canister out at least leave a line open to relieve vacuum.

re-route the end of the vent line to somewhere a little less noticable.... then stick the cannister there. they're metal from the factory but don't have to stay that way.
