Just saying Hi to all!!!!
Hey everyone
this is my first post in this forum, but I've been browsing it for some time now.
Damn I love RX-7s, my fav car out of everything, for the styling, and for the rotary engine, damn I love it.
the only problem is that I'm 17 yrs old, and I can't afford one. Life sucks.
Currently my parents own a '99 Mazda Protege LX (ES in US) Touring Edition, 5 spd, 1.8L FP-DE engine, etc etc, and i just drive that aorund.
I'm hoping to save up for a turbo II for when I'm 18, I would love that so much.
But i just wanted to give out a shout and a to you all
hopefully soon I'd get my FC, and then a couple of yrs later, I'd get my FD <---- (basically car of my dreams) I know there are alot of other cars out there, that are like half a mill, which would qualify for better dream cars to have, but i don't care....the FD is my car of my dreams
hehe well peace out

Whats up!!!!!
Your Protoge is a TIGHT as car. Have you done any mods to it???? For a front wheel drive car, they handle very well.
Save up...you'll find a good one for just about $3-4K U$.
Good luck...

Welcome to the club, hope you find your FC. I got mine kinda by accident. Saw it advertised at a dealer and saw the words
"RX-7.............................convertible"
I went to see if this was really an RX-7 just because I didn't know they even made a convertible model. Guess what I own now? Only ran me about $3K.

hmmm one thing i wana know...I know that the FD runs about 75k miles til it needs a rebuild....I know if you treat it alot better you can get more outta it
how much does the FC go to about until the rebuild is needed, cuz i hear the the FC engine lasts longer
I think if i got one that was like one in my avatar, that would be really cool

I paid 6 for mine, but it was a turbo model. They normally last around 100k before the motor starts showing signs of age. If its modded, it usually blows up before then though

If I were you, and tight on cash, I'd save up enough for an NA FC. You can find those for around 2 grand in pretty nice shape. I paid 3k for mine and it started showing signs of rust... kinda regret that. I was 17 and just wanted another 7. My first car was an 88 base, paid 4k for it, and it got sideswiped pretty bad.
I'm right there with ya on the dream car but my FC needs a lot of work and I can't neglet it, it's like child abuse. I've got 149,000 original miles and there are only minor signs of it ever slowing down. If you go Turbo'd, then be expected to find a rebuild around 100K. Stick with an NA, they're cheaper at first, you can learn a whole bunch on 'em, and THEN I'd go get some boost when you understand how it works. If your really worried about how much mileage you'll get out of your engine without any rebuilds... stay N/A.
Take it easy and welcome to one of the best forums around,
Chris

wow cool, thanks for the replies everyone
but hmm
if i get a NA RX-7, maybe 1988 - 1991, hmmm maybe as low as 1987, how much would it cost me to put a turbo into it later on, or would it just be cheaper to buy the turboII straight away

if you really want one now...start with an NA
there cheaper and are a little more reliable...
maybe u can luck up and find one like i did for $600. 136k (currently 150k and still going...no rebuilt yet). I've had it about a year (come Nov 23)... I've even raced it a few times in autocross... they're great cars and if u see one try wheelin-n-dealin. u might get lucky

I just got an 91 N/A, and I love it. I wish I could of afforded a turbo II, but at 3500$ for a 7 with 98,000 miles and 17" Super Advan Racing Rims, I couldn't pass it up.
