Changing Wastegates????
Can I exchange a S4 and S5 turbo. What I want to know is can I put a S4 turbo into a S5 wastegate. I believe they are they same (Hitachi 18s-2s).
The reason I am asking is that I have found a recently rebuilt S4 turbo but have a S5 Turbo housing in the garage.

The wastegate is integral with the exhaust housing. You need to swap the entire exhaust housing, and must also use the matching S5 manifold. Otherwise it's a direct (and very worthwhile) swap.
