You will have to use a jack to support the engine while you remove the passenger side engine mount. The mount's bolts attach to the block but they go through the oil pan.

mmmm. i just recently changed my oil pan gasket and that thing was a bitch if you dont know what your doing. i didnt know about supporting the engine and broke a motor mount . it took me all day to do and dont forget to put alot of sealent on the gasket because it will leak like mine does again because i didnt put enough. the hardest ones to get which you will find out in time are easiest to get with the little tool that bends at the end and an exstender

i changed mine a couple times and used the tranny to jack the engine up a bit. Worked fine for me.

Gasket is cheap. Maybe $12 bucks. Mazdaformace.com will have your cheaper price.

It is a bitch job no doubt. Get that area really clean you suspect the oil leak from. Just to verify that leak is coming from the oil pan. There are a few common leaks that can dribble their way down across your oil pan. Leading you to believe that it is the pan.

IF it is the pan you are going to save a lot of money doing it your self.

You really do not need the gasket. However, I did use it because it is a bitch to do and I do not want it to leak one bit.

Get your self a universial socket joint for those front bolts. Also, i believe the torque on those bolts are 10 ft lbs so dont over torque them!

Have fun and what not.

James

I had to take my oil pan off awhile back.
It's really not bad if you take your time.

some pointers:
1. remove clutch fan and fan shroud to allow easy access to oil pan bolts in front.

2. raise motor 1 inch with a jack and block of wood by the front of tranny.

3. you may have to undo the driver's side engine mount to get the motor high enough to access some bolts. Don't raise the engine up far enough so that this engine mount comes apart, it's hard to get back in.

4. Make sure the car is raised high up and WELL SUPPORTED, then you can be confortalbe and take your time which is what made it kind of easy for me.

5. Follow FSM instructions excluding how they raise the motor.

Is the Rx7 gasket going To haunt us forever? I notice some of the guys have replace their oil pan gasket a few times already. Is there any other gasket that are likely to leak on the FC?? Can i use sealet with the new gasket or is the form gasket that much better??
