Changed oil...Now a little smoke on cold starts?

The smoke is getting less and less every time the car starts, but I was just wondering if it could be because I added a little too much oil or something? I dont think its done this before...but Im not sure. Its not a lot of smoke...but its definitely there, and definitely smells like oil.

Perhaps the oil seals are begining to fail and you guys used a "light" oil?

Lots of rotaries will smoke at startup. Mainly after its sat for a while. I wouldnt get too concerned yet, unless its a constant thing, even when warm.

Use heavier oil next time it won't hurt.

Well like I said, it did it after I changed the oil. I just went out and started it and let it run for a little while and no smoke came out at all...

BTW guys cold starts are bad. Blip the gas or turn it on in 1st gear so it don't shoot to 3k.

Motor will be happier.

Whats the problem? As long as you don't exceed 3k..

I wouldn't worry about it.. it's not like it sits at 3k while its warming up, at least mine doesn't..

should be roughly 1500 @ cold idle.. right?

OR just disable the AWS, like I did.

mine smokes at startup for 5-10secs when it sits overnight. that is at 1000-1500rpm with 20w 50.

even with the AWS out it'll still rev to 3000 in N. cause the BAC and thing facing the firewall open as well.

Well I wouldn't like waking up in the middle of the night and have to run 100 yards without warming up and streatching. The less stress on the engines seals while cold is better. My car starts up goes to 1800 then drops to 1400 for like 5 min. then goes down slowly to 8 or 900 rpms.

I dissabled the AWS.(I.E. RIPED THE CRAP RIGHT OUT)

Block off the AWS and it will quit the fast idle.

Hmm.. can anyone back this up?

Sounds both right and wrong at the same time..

I intentionally idle mine @ 2k rpm on startup for about 15-20 seconds until it meets my liking..

At which point I let the throttle drop to the 1100 rpm..

BTW - My car idles at 1100 upon cold start, and 800 when warm start.. on cold start it shoots to 2k for a split second then drops..

I'm assuming that's abnormal?

Mine doesnt idle at all when cold. I have to hold the gas I usually keep it around 1.5~2k rpms until its warm ( Hopefully the Haltech will cure this problem... ).

I also start the car in first gear so it doesnt engage the AWS.
