Challenging Situation
Heres the question:
1988 GXL freshly rebuilt motor. Stock ports 2mm 2 piece apex seals. Everything is preety much stock. The problem is this. When the engine was put into the car it initially started. Very rough and didnt idle properly but it started. The same day the timing was done, the idle was adjusted and it idled fine at around 800 rpm. The engine was turned off cause i didnt want to push my luck for the day. The next morning i cranked it and it didnt start. After a few more cranks it started up but wouldnt idle so i had to play with the screw ontop of my throttle body. It was fine thereafter and kept an idle perfectly. Yesterday it starts up, as it idles i feel it beginning to die. As i go to give gas, there is no response even when i slam the throttle down. So i check my throttle cables everything checks out fine. I took the plugs out many times to see if they had fuel on them and they did but they were flooded. So i deflood and check my fuel pressure. Now this is where things get messed. I have around 58-60 psi of fuel pressure directly from my pump going towards the fuel pressure regulator. As it hits that regulator something weird happens. Sometimes i have literally no fuel coming in the return line yet my plugs are wet. So logically i figured hmm maybe leaky injectors. Well the entire system holds pressure and doesnt leak. After a few more hours of tinkering i finally get it started and set the idle and timing again. Just when it seems like its going good, it just shuts off on me. I check my spark plugs.... bang they are dry. Like literally nothing on them. Now so far i know i have spark. All of my spark plugs are firing. My timing is dead on. However for some weird reason there is some sort of problem in my fuel system. Today it cut out on me after it had warmed up. Now one thing ive been thinking is if there is any sort of sensor or switch that cuts fuel when the car warms up?? im really just out of ideas. So if anyone could shed some light on this itd be awsome. sorry for the long read and thanks in advance
