CF Sunroofs

People have been emailing and calling about these, so I thought I would let everyone know that they are done. Here are some pics:

They are hand laid 100% carbon fiber (like all of our parts) using flexible UV resin.

How can the bolts be properly secured if its hand layed? You do know by vacum bagging the sunroof its lighter and stronger

Because the bolts have plates on the bottom of them, and they are then laid to the bottom of the sunroof, just like our hood scoops. There are no problems with strength. How much lighter than 2 lbs will really make a difference? Weight really isn't a major factor since it only shaves 8lbs from the stock panel. Plus the CF won't rust like the stock one. That is the major concern from people.

I do agree the major concern is that it wont rust and how much weight i can give you a exact number since i am not finished mine yet. Hower the main reason we vacum suck our is because the panels become much stronger. I can understand you not seeing the reason because we spent about $1500 on the bags and pumps to be able to vacum suck. However all the parts we make for the rally cars are for strength and wieght so vacum bagging only makes sense, hand laid is ok for show but so is just plain overlay then

And just how much will strength in the sunroof benefit the end user? It isn't like its a strut bar. It is a body panel, that is not under alot of stress at any given time. Even when it is fully retracted, there isn't alot of force on it. It isn't that I don't understand because I didn't spend $1500 for a vacuum setup (especially since I don't make the parts, I contract it out) it is that in this instance I don't see the need to spend that money to shave half pound. Go ahead and make your panels my friend. I have been working on these for about 4 months. So it isn't like I did these to ruin your fun. I don't release info until my products are finished anymore. Then there are no disappointments if a part or product doesn't work out for some reason.

No, don't do that. Make them and sell them. The timing was just off I think. I didn't know you were making them, or I would have just tried to work something out with you to purchase through you. I had to spend the money in molds and crap that I could have put towards yours. It's all good my friend.

Dave,

That looks very nice. If I were to pick one up I might just *gasp!* leave it un painted */gasp!*

It looks like a miror.

One cool think I would like to see is maybe a faint image reading "FC3S" or "RX-7" but thats just a crazy idea

I like that it only weighs 2 pounds aswell.

What kind of work would you have to do to get paint to stick on that? it looks like a slick surface

But do either of you have plans for a cheaper fiberglass version?

The Formula Rice CF look is lost on me (being an old fart), but it sure would be nice to have a lighter roof that doesn't rust and can be painted to match the car.

But very slick looking Dave. Nice Job!

The idea is cool, but it would really be hard to do As for paint, it is just like anything else on a car. Just sand it with like 4-600 grit, prime it and paint it. I make them really shiny so people that want to leave it with the CF look don't have to do anything but install it.

I just talked to my cf guy...fiberglass is not a problem. Price will be $140 on them. He is going to bring me one with his next delivery middle of next week, and when he does we will install it and take more pics for people.

What are the dimensions of the carbon fiber sunroof panels? They look slightly shorter in the first picture posted. Thanks

I don't have the gasket installed. That is what I have been waiting for to take the pics of it. It is the same exact size as the stock one though, as it was tooled from a stock sunroof panel.

You said in the other thread that you were going to show how you mounted it in without all the tracks and **** right? Can't wait to see that, I've been wanting to do that for a while now.

Yep, we're about to start that. The mold was just finished and we're laying the glass now.

I'll likely toss my hat in and sell a CF version later on (I don't want to get in the way of Dave and Chris' biz). For those that don't know, I have met Chris (aka krazykoncept) and he's definitiely a very diligent person--good call on the vac-bagging, BTW

Dave, that is one glossy roof. I have to wear to look at it. Great work.
