CF/FG Pricing

OK Boys and Girls, here's the scoop.

It seems that a few things that were going to be made of CF will no longer be doing so.

The funds to start my own CF/FG business will be available on Tuesday. I intend to GET those funds. What I need from you, are what you think are reasonable prices for CF/FG items.

S4 Stereo Surrounds
S5 Stereo Surrounds
S4 Warning Light Surrounds
S5 Warning Light Surrounds
Sunroof Skins
FTP Vents
Rear Diffusers
Mickey-Mouse Style Gague Pods
Border Style Gague Clusters

Anything else I'm forgetting, please don't hesitate to post here; this ISN'T a comprehensive list.

ONE LAST NOTE

Now that there is already someone producing CF Hoods (www.fc3s.org), DO NOT ASK ABOUT THEM. I will EVENTUALLY make one, but not until this business becomes profitable enough to do so.

So, now the questions is, how much would you be willing to pay, for the previously menntioned items? Remember to include the prices for both Carbon Fiber AND Fiberglass! Thanks.

it all depends on how much you get it for...obviously we want the lowest price available, so take the price at which it cost YOU to make them/get the material, and rasie it a little...

Well, considering that I'll probably be the only person to make a lot of this, my price will be the lowest available. As of right now, the molds for a lot of this will cost over $100 a peice, and the CF matting by itself is $20+ a yard. Multi-layered things will get expensive.

Most orders would probably have 1 or 2 layers of CF on top, with FG filling up space, to increase the thickness. But, PURE CF things can be made, at a higher price.

None of this includes Labor, shipping the materials to me, setting everything up, etc. For Refrence, Adam (Mazdaspeed7) Was asking something like $125 or so for the Stereo Surrounds. That's not too bad when you consider the cost to make something like that, and the time involved (can only make 1 at a time, unless you dish out the $$ for MORE molds)

LoL, I hope so. But I really need to come up with a general proposition for the loan. (Family is loaning me cash, but they're very business oriented, and need a marketing strategy, etc.)

Before anyone asks about the quality. My partner in this has worked with Fiberglass and Carbon Fiber (Mostly FG) for over 6 years now. He's got a nice little certificate from a local technical school saying he can do it, and spent 5 years at a marine repair shop, doing what he'll be doing w/ me. He's very good at what he does.

I'll be responsible for the actual business end. I'm a FREAK when it comes to order. A few people on here have bought parts from me, and none have had any complaints that I'm aware of. I'll be taking the orders, and handling customer service.

There will be NO accepting pre-orders. I'm not going to make the same mistake that Adam did about that. Here is how it will work. When I get a order, I'm going to ask for something like 25% of the cost (non-refundable, once I put matting to resin). When I get it, we start making it. When we're done, send us the rest of the cost and shipping, and it comes to you 2-3 business days later. If it doesn't, let me know. You will get a shipping number THE DAY I SEND IT (1-2 days from when I get the money) when I get the money, you'll get an E-Mail, when I send it, you'll get a tracking number. IF YOU DON'T, let me know. If I jerk you around, let the FORUM know. Sound good?

It's pretty simple. I get a % to cover my *** initally, I finish, I get the rest of the $, you get your part. If you back out, I get to keep the %. If anything goes wrong (shipping, part damage, etc) let me know. If I jerk you around, let the forum know.

Sorry if I'm a bit repetitive, it's 3:15 in the morning, and I've got things to do to get ready for a trip today. Still need your input.

The part I would love to have, get, see is a front lip(whatever else you want to call it) I would gladly pay a $150 FOR IT IF I COULD ACTUALY GET ONE. I know other people make it but I'm afraid of the horror stories.

sounds good, i was gonna say no need for the %, but in a way its good for you and the customer...

i'd say $100 even for the stock stereo surrounds, for both models (s4,s5) +shipping....

and i would definitely be interested in a vent for the ftp lenses like this one....

Wow! Those vents are almost exactally what I had in mind (the lip would be a BIT thicker)

As for the Surrounds, I'll probably charge around what Adam was charging (which was ACTUALLY $150+Shipping)

But, that's not just the surround, either. That's also the peice surrounding the shifter as well, all molded into 1 peice.

Also, another product that I plan to make. An S-AFC holder, that will slide right into the ashtray slot, and angled for the drivers best view.

The prices may sound steep, but you get what you pay for. Also, if I can get my hands on the FACTORY front lip spoiler, consider one made.

$150+shipping is a good price for the stereo/shifter surround. How much is shipping going to be??

Are you going to make the surrounds with the holes precut already?? I would personally prefer a flat one so I could cut holes to fit my needs, and hopefully that would be alittle cheaper too.

i dont know much about fg so all this is for cf

S4 Stereo Surrounds
S5 Stereo Surrounds

both probably 100ish, depending on how hard it is for you to make them

S4 Warning Light Surrounds
S5 Warning Light Surrounds

maby 80 at the most, its a pretty simple shape, just getting the mold made will be the hard part

Sunroof Skins

probly not very much for this, all your making is a rectangle with rounded corners if im understanding you correctly,

Rear Diffusers

i dont have a clue, are you mimicking a current rear defuser? how many sq feet of cf does this use?

well.. thats all i got to say

if its gonna be as high as 150, that should include shipping.....

i disagree with the waiting till someone orders it to make it though....i dont want to pay someone, to have to wait a couple weeks, for it to come....why not just make some of each and go from there, when you sell them all, start making more after that and have them on deck....thats the basics of buisness....you have to have the cash upfront if you want to start doing this, not ask for a percentage first for your funding....

some other ideas would be...(in CF)...
-rear Bin Lids
-cluster surround (the part the headlight switch is connected to)
-armrest base
-panel in front of armrest (Sercurity light)
-rear license plate holder/surround
-ash tray lid
-Border style headlight cover (FG)

thats all i can think of.....

I want a fiberglass (so it is paintable) version of the 86-87 'sport' spoiler. Not the GTU, T2 type stuff. The little black urethane one. Something that bolts on just like the original. (Sure would look nice with the lip on the front of the car.)

Right now, I'm just working on ideas. Nothing is final either way, but there ALWAYS seems to be a demand for things made of CF.

Two days and counting until the funds are available.

Alot of people have quoted $150 for the stereo surround, and that sounds like a fair price to me. If it was $150 shipped, I'd buy sooner rather then later.

as for the rest of the stuff, the warning light surround is nice, but it's not as visiable as a nice stereo surround, I think $75-80 (about half of the surround) is alot to charge, I certainly wouldn't buy one.

Another idea is the demister grills, they're prone to breaking, and you could easily charge whatever a new one cost, and probably get it.

I too would buy the demister grills in a flash, unless they're like $25 piece, and a warning light surround if not priced toooo much more than what the plastic replacements cost new.

I think a FG hood would be nice. much lighter than the damn steel hood and probably the alluminum ones, but not as expensive as CF.

You and me sir, are on the same level.

Hear us out Liquid. Id gladly pay $ for a FG paintable version of the 86-87 Sport spoiler. What figure did you have in mind for this opel?

If I can find one to mold from, then I'll try and make one for you guys.

Hey Tony, check out the SpRX-7 yahoo group. It's the Springfield Guys' attempt at starting up a club. Hopefully it'll get the SW MO/NW AR boys together to get a nice presence in the RX-7 community.

Anyone have a Sport front lip spoiler they're willing to let a mold be made from?

I'm not sure. I've been trying to figure out the feasibility of doing a two or three piece mold to easily produce a bolt on replacement. Not as easy as it seems.
I guess a simple trim to fit bond on piece could be done for well under $200. Fiberglass, of course.
