Talking CF dash cover with gauges progress pics

Aight guys im following thru on that dash cover I said i would make. I made a mold of my original dash in FG and then laid some urethane foam and sanded it smooth so there is no more drop in the dash from the back, it is all smoothed and contoured and the cups are where the gauges will go.

Nice idea and work so far. How will it be held onto the dash? 3M tape? Would you be willing to make one without the ears on the speedo section? Or is that to much of a PITA? And one final one ... How much will these be if you are going to be selling them?

I apologize if you have another thread about this already.

yeah I was thinking 3m tape. I have been working on stuff all weekend so I am getting really burnt out so im looking for some motivation. How much you think something like this is worth? $149 maybe in CF?

I'd pay you 150 for one in CF or fiberglass. I'll paint it either way. Let me know when you get closer to final product and have some fitment pics. I am definetly intrested.

Just noticed you have a S4...will this work for S5's as well? Thanks

It's a piece that covers the entire top part of the dash?

Do you think you can make something that snaps into the spot of the warning lights?

I wouldn't really want an entire dash cover.

That is what sold me on it. I'm out if they don't come with it!

And again would it be possible to get it without the ears?

and about the ears. it would be a major PITA bread cuz I would have to fill it in on the mold or cut them off afterwards and then fill in the spot on the CF and the weave would look like shnit. And as far as gauges for the cluster area, that is a logical product to make and thats probably why I am not going to do it yet. See for some stupid reason I do what is the hardest first and then try to make the easier stuff. A year ago I had never messed with fiberglass in my life. Then all the sudden 88integraLS makes this bumper so i went to the plastic store and just started asking questions and buying stuff. With no experience whatsoever I made a custom hood, which by and far is the biggest pain in the *** to make cuz you have to deal with a large surface where mistakes are easy to see and and you have a double sided part. I have a come a far way since but what I do defies logic. You think i would have started with something small like a gauge cluster and played with it and got it out of my system, but no. I posted a thread asking if someone wanted it and they kept telling me they hear these posts all the time an no one ever comes thru, well sure as **** I guess I had all the motivation I needed, so I guess doing the hard parts first could be a personality disorder where I love to suprise and impress.

Cool no problem. I guess if I could just get one in Fiberglass instead of CF that would be cool. I would then just shave and fill/smooth out the areas that were removed. It is just my personal taste about the ears. I don't really like the border style ones for the FD either. But I would take either set-up over the A-pillar ****. i hate those things. Block all kinds of viewing in the FD IMO. Oh well , Would the Glass be a problem for you ? Since you have to make more than one anyway. Then you also don't have to worry about the weave matching.

If I got the CF and shaved off the ears... would i be able to fill it with glass instead of more CF? I guess i mean would the glass adhere and stay on the CF?

Mine all work. Why shouldn't they be working? At Sevenstock I saw a FC with the id lights relocated under the radio slot in the center console and that looked good.

Your project is interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing how the piece develops.

Thanks.

tomorrow I am taking a break. I am so sick of fiberglass and sandpaper and my burgandy *** interior that I need a break. I have to go cut a few peices of that glass off and trim and then then sand the hell out of it for a bit. After that I add bondo and sand it. Some body icing to clean it up and then primer. I also have to make sure everything is straight and lines up right so it will take a bit of time. But the way i see it if I get this positive of a result at 2am on a monday morning with a pic of a yellow mess of fiberglass, foam and coffee cups then I dont think I can dissapoint. Thanx guys, now I have more gas to back on Tuesday.
