carfax isn't always reliable (garbage in, garbage out)

no flame, just a warning on putting too much emphasis on archived dmv records. I bought a car last Oct. and my reg info still doesn't show up on report today. before that I ran carfax numerous times and got less info than the print out the P.O. had on his report. As it stands now all info is gone and only one reg record back in 1993 -so WTF I do not trust carfax 100% anymore.

caveat emptor

thanks for putting up your info though!!!!

HADNSE is 100% correct, Carfax is full of *****....

My TII was bought last year from Chris Ng, he is a forum member and can back this up, when he owned it, it was hit in the rear and written off by his insurance company, he took the buy back option and damage money, then sold the car to me, I fixed it, and then had it reinspected and safety'd.. My registration now says "repaired" under vehicle status, he got a note in the mail from the registries that confirmed the car had been given a write off title.. Yet Carfax brings it up as clean, and only lists the details from the cars life previous to both Chris and I owning it in another province, in which it passed all of its emmissions tests...
Be weary of using it to buy a car with...Max

252 cars checked now.

Thanks, I found out I'm the third owner of my 91 Galant VR4, and that the original owner had it for nine years. It spent most of its life in Ft L. FL. Wish I could say the same...

Needs info to reactivate

Carfax says that it needs your information to reactivate the account. Is there something I'm missing or have you been periodically reactivating it? Either way, you're the man.

Thanks

Seems their info is accurate up to the point when I bought the car in 1996.Doesn't show any history of the car after that.I was curious if it would show my wreck from last year or not. When I was rear ended.

Mine rebuilt/salvage too, but after looking the car over 100 times (I already knew it) I still can't figure out why.

Over 383 now...

"Rebuilt/salvage" is a bit of a misnomer.&nbsp The title can be stamped "salvaged" due to a car being "totalled" by the insurance company due to vandalism or theft - if the repair of the vehicle costs more than the blue book value, the insurance company will total the car.&nbsp This ends up being a "rebuilt/salvage" title.&nbsp A simple theft of the ECU and airflow meter will usually total most NA FC's, as this will cost over $2,000 to replace from the Mazda dealer!

Most salvage titles are due to accident damage, but there are rare instances it has nothing to do with an accident.&nbsp Another example of a salvaged vehicle is a car that has flood damage - it takes too much money to fix such a vehicle versus totalling it through insurance...
