I vote for the reverse hood on the yellow RE car above. =) Make it have stock hinges and latch, and strong enough to use without hoodpins so we can swap hoods when needed. (electric fan, don't want water on it, obviously)

this topics popped up a million times, and we run into the same problem, which is everybody bitching about what design to use. and half the people bitching have no money to buy one anyway. at any point in time if we had 10 people together fiberimages would do a NICE hood for us for 400$. i believe that would be a replica of the TII hood.

my personal preferance would either be to have a nice reverse cowl (takes air away from the rad.......nice functional design), or a stock TII hood in CF. though i dont really have any desire to have a CF stock hood. My 2 cents.................i still dont ever see us getting hoods made tho

Node,
In the type of racing I do we tend to hit things occasionally. The AL. hood is a nice thing but it is still too heavy and VERY hard to fix. The Fiberglass hood i have now weighs 7# compared to 21 for the alum. and 40+ for the steel. Problem is the one I have sucks, no hinges, very flexable and the rear corners have a "court jester" thing going on that I'm not too fond of. The CF would be great but it has to be less then 7-8# or I'm out.

Everyone I is missing a small point here wanting to ram more air under the hood. Where does that air go? There needs to be a wa to let the air out at the trailing edge of the hood line. Also I have an aluminum hood and its pleanty light so i doubt Ill be shopping for one anytime soon, but then again it hailed on me today so......

See the post 'who owns this car?'

In the post by 'vaughnc' is a picture of a red RX7 with the kind of hood I would buy.

if a stylish reverse scoop design was made, i'd seriously consider throwing my money down for one, if the final price was reasonable.

how much would it cost to have one shipped to Australia i wonder tho...
and would it get here in 1 piece...

anyway, my vote goes on that yellow FC with the reverse hood.

u can buy aluminium or steel NA or turbo bonnets everywhere, but light reverse scoop bonnets, which everyone seems to want, are unobtainable.

I like the Pan-Speed hood most, because its somewhat subtle. But what about rain? I know some of the FD guys w/ the cowl hoods use metallic strips or something to help when it starts raining, I just have no idea what they meant, just saw em talking about it.

I vote for a hood like soul assassin's . I don't see any point in making a stock CF hood. I wouldn't buy one. My aluminum one is light enough.
Build it to let air flow in the front through the radiator and out the reverse scoop.

Pan-Speed

The only one I like is the Pan-Speed or one like the Knightsports hood. Too much open area scares me because my car is not always indoors when it rains.

Another vote for Pan-Speed, then.

...edit...

I posted pics of a car here with the mazdaspeed hood, but I realized that I was posting pics of someone elses car and their plates were visible... so I'll edit the pic and get it online when I get home.

Actually the trailing edge of the hood is a high-pressure area. The area where the stock TII "scoop" is located is a low-pressure area. Air would go in at the trailing edge and out the scoop if you did that.

I personally like the "vented" hood, but honestly don't think I would buy one. I will probably just keep my stocker.

i want a hood like the one on the yellow FD, the mazdaspeed hood.

but for our FC's it needs to be more boxy, and less swoopy, to compliment the straight edged lines on our cars, and not rounded like the FD hood. if its rounded, the lines would clash w/ the body lines of our current sheet metal (Fenders, bumper, doors)

make the reverse scoop w/ a flange on the inside so that we can hot-glue some aluminum mesh down at the bottom to keep birds, leaves, squirrels, kids, and hondas from falling into our engine compartment. i would rather have the hot air flowing thru the bumper like it does now, angle up to flow perpedicular to the radiator core, and up thru the reverse scoop, swept away by the rushing air over the hood that creates the vaccuum.

i think that would be better than haveing the vent at the trailing edge of the hood, cuz then all the hot air would have to turbulate and swirl around inside the engine compartment, heating up all your components before leaving.

Any updates on the hood? Do you have any molds made? What the hell are you doing?

Check out this tread on the 3rd gen carbon fiber remake hood.

Ideas

I don't think a stock replacement would be a good idea, most people, (including me) aren't so worried about saving a few pounds that they're going to shill out the money.

We should copy a hood becuase then we'll allready know what it will look like. Trying to make an FD hood (or any other car's hood) look good on our cars is alot more work, instead of just copying the piece, you have to design a whole new piece, and get examples made before people are going to commit to buying one.

The Pan Speed hood looks damn nice. Will look good on a stock FC, or one with a body kit. Plus it's difficult, and expensive for us to get the PanSpeed hood here, so even if I wanted one (and I do), it would be tough to get it.

It would be nice if it didn't need hood pins, that would be a big turn off for me, most of the time it's alot easir to just pop the hood, then take the hood off, plus it would be more work to install. And if you wanted hood pins, there's nothing stopping you.

So if a PanSpeed style FC hood was made in CF for a reasonable price (somewhere around $500) , and could use the stock hinges and latches. Everyone would know what it would look like, it would be a good buy for both people who wanted a CF hood, and for people who want a more aggressive looking hood, and would probably do a better job of keeping temps low then the stock hood (especially if you have a FMIC)

I'd buy one.

Listen it's been all most 3 weeks since this post
and nothing is happening

2+ months on custom body kit's and that is going no where also

FC you need to stop listening to the "wish" people

It'll bog you down.

Just make a TII CF hood

I have also been talking with Chuck, and i have been trying to recruit guys for a border or mazdaspeed style hood for the fc in carbon. I decided not the post on the forum because no one holds up to their side, let me know when you are ready to do the hoods, im in, unless its a stock TII hood in carbon, no need to waste the money i think...

I don't understand why everyone's baggin on this guy for trying to help us out!!!!

Anyway I really like the idea of a stock C/F hood.... (only used for cars equipped with FMIC's or N/A's)

Gives car a Professional look without turning our cars into
"RICE ROCKETS"!!!!!!!!!

A stock hood doesn't LOOK LIKE SOMETHING OFF "THE FAST AND LAME" Movie....

Only problem is that it will not have all the stock hinges and stuff. it will not have any provisions for hinges and will be very light weight(you will have to make your own mounting system, lift off hood with pins would be easiest). problem with the stock hood is lack of air flow at high speed, problem in making the stock hood is the scoop is ducted to the intercooler. this means there is an internal passage that needs to be built and molded to the inside after the outside is finished(time consuming and expensive). I have a race shop that builds a body kit for SCCA E-Production cars and he is trying to build a turbo hood with a large naca duct lower on the hood to get more air at speed and make it cheeper to build. last time I spoke with him the mold was done and he was trying figure out the inside ducting. I should have the first one done about january. I will post a pic when it is done. If you want a flat hood he already makes these, but remember none of the stock latchs or hinges will fit onto it. Also both hoods eliminate the headlight doors. both are intended for race track type cars and are fiberglass but CF can be done for a small price increase.. flat hood is $300 plus shipping and crating and the turbo hood will be around $400 plus s&c. if you are interested send me an email
I would be interested in this ... post a pic when it's done. I want a hood that eliminates the headlight pop-ups. Either I'll custom one myself or find one that I can buy.

I dont know if you guys like this but if you have seen the new grand am gt hood. I think a variation of that but with the scoops further apart and a vent in the middle of them this would take care of both wants and purposes. Please let me know if you like this idea.

I like the scoot FD hood but with some more angular openings to match the FC body lines. I don't think a TII hood is a great choice cuz why make your car look like what its not? it would be stupid to put a TII hood on a N/A it would not do as much as a heat extractor hood would do and the heat extractor hood would be cool. the Knight Sport FC hood would be cool in carbon. I would buy a stock style carbon hood if it was offered.
