I had this problem and it was the water thermo sensor. It controls the engine's reading on the temperature of the coolant. If not working, the engine runs rich. It's located on the water pump behind the thermostat. Take off the alternator and its easy to replace. mazdatrix sells the part for about $50.00
Hope this helps

I had problems with my S-AFC when I first installed it too- same things, but I fixed them!
I won't tell you how though.
j/k
First, make sure it's wired correctly... (two grounds, and all that)
Run a ground from your chassis to the battry negative
Run a second ground from the firewall to under the intake manifold, where the original one is.
OK- here's the main part-
The MAF and the pressure sensor both have a ground wire- brown with black stripe, run a ground wire to all of them (2 at the MAF, on e at the pressure sensor) so they are grounded together, and then ground that to the chassis.
I did this, and now my S-AFC works fantastic- It's the best power mod I have done.
One more thin- your injectors may be dirty, and squirting, not spraying. This'll do it.
Check your ignition system too.
Also- make sure it's set properly (Flap, 5in 5out, 4cyl, throttle up)
