Drove my 88 n/a about 20 miles the other day. Had it off for about 20-30 minutes. When i came back out it wouldnt start. It cranked and sounded like it started to fire but then just went back to cranking. Went to the KOI Cinci show for about 5 hrs and came back...fired right up. On the way home my buddy told me when i downshifted to 3rd and floored it I was spitting flames from my tailpipes. Ive only owned this car for a month now...any ideas as to whats going on?

 

Probably running rich, flooding due to leaky injector. Possibly time for a rebuild. a fuel cut off switch can help.

 

Yea ive just about got the cash for a rebuild. does anyone know if rx7store.net does quality work? i hope it was just flooded which would explain the trouble starting and flames due to unburnt fuel.

 

To further diagnose your problem you need to perform a compression check, if your compression is lower than 80psi you are going to have flooding issues.
