Car wont stop reving. Need help.

Well i was driving my 2nd gen today and all of a sudden the car started to rev high without me pressing on the gas. even in neutral the car would keep reving high. The best way to discribe it is, its like an invisible brick sitting on the gas pettle. Can anyone help me out?

Pop the hood and make sure the accelerator cable isn't stuck. If you're unsure disconnect the cable and see if the problem goes away.

with the throttle cable removed can you force the throttle linkage back to rest at idle? seems like something is sticking and it can only be one of 2 things: throttle cable or linkage.

Make sure its the throttle cable, see if you can pull the gas back with your foot and if it lowers the idle- its the throttle cable.

cone filter

I had a similiar problem on my old N/a

If you have a cone filter, sometimes they have a metel thing or plastic thing that is supposed to be glued inside... It sometimes comes off and gets sucked into the intake.. i found out by removing the whole intake tube and looking at the butterfly etc... Something is probably stuck in there.. check it out and let me know

Its reving at about 3000, and it sometimes slowly increases.

sounds like cold start. check that first. the car revs to about 3,000 on start up automatically. search for more info. If its not cold start (which it might not be since it happens while your driving) check and lube the throttle cable assembly (on the firewall behind the VDI manifold if you're NA, intake mani if you're turbo). Sometimes they will stick, especially in the cold.
