Car wont stay Running
Car wont stay Running
I am the proud owner of a 1986 GXL that my father gave to me for my birthday. The car was running great after we droped a rebuilt engine into it and it felt real strong but one day it started sputtering when i was driving it and then i pulled it in my drive way and it stalled and wouldnt start. I went out the next day and it started for about ten minutes and died i cranked it for about 20 min and it finally sputtered i gave up. Today i ripped out the fuel pump and replaced the strainer now it starts and revs for about ten seconds dies but then it will start right back up and do the same thing. If anyone knows wat it is please help
A clamp off the large air hose b/t the airflow meter and the intake manifold. Or how about the electrical plug on the air flow meter is halfway off? Or how about for some reason the micro sw inside the airflow meter that makes the fuel circuit, is not making when the engine starts? To overcome the last possibility, there is a yellow, two wire jumper plug on or near the r/h strut tower that can be jumpered with a piece of wire to circumvent the afm, and the car should start...if that was the problem. Turning the key to start on that car will energize the fuel pump. When the key is released, the pump does not run unless the micro sw in the afm is made due to the afm drawing in air. Or it could be flooded. Or................................................ .................
hey
Im going with bad injectors... Mine flooded my car when i was at idle. Pissed me off. U can check ur oil to see if its black or darker than usual. I had fuel in it and turned black after 1500miles. Althou thats what i think it was.. HIALERS wana correct me.
if i press the gas the engine will die even sooner but i havent tried to do that thing to my air flow meter so im going to get off here and go try it i will let u know if it works
Yeah, go to that other site on TECH, and the reply by Wargasm. He wrote much the same fix but he made it a lot clearer. Wargasm is the guy with the 275 dollar rotary compression tester.
Here's my car's problem. The engine was rebuilt and had a Racing Beat Header and straight pipe on it. I swapped headers and stock exaust to try and get it legal. It was running fine but when I swapped mufflers it did something very weird. It would start for about 45 seconds then die. Then start for 20 seconds and die and then 10 sec and die, 5 sec and die, and then just fire and die and fire and die. Only thing I touched was the headers, muffler and actuaters to get the header off.
Changed fuel filter, added injector cleaner, checked plugs and they are new but are dark at the ends. Disconnected the muffler so its not a clogged muffler. Could it be a sensor, injector, or vacumm line. It runs great but does the same sequence of starts and dies for the last few weekends. Don't know where to start.
Any help is appreciated.
