car won't start or runs rough when cold?? and gauge cluster lights
the past few days since it has been cold my car has trouble starting and when started runs like crap until warmed up. is this common on rx7's? today i went to start my car after not driving it since friday and it would not start when i turned the key, it just kept trying but would not finally turn over until i gave it some gas for a few seconds and then a bunch of smoke blew out of my exhaust when it started. just a list of what has been going on with my car lately to help diagnose it. also is there a fuse that controls the gauge cluster? my lights went out and i am missing my cover for my fuses. how do i get the lights for my speedo etc back on thanks

Could be several things, but the first item that popped in my head is the water thermo sensor. Get to the ECU and read that bad boy out (voltage, to ground). Should be close to 2 volts when really cold, and drop as she's warming up, to about .4v

My 86GX loves the cold...never run better. But I did do a full tune up new plugs etc. just before winter. If you havent put in new plugs or done a full tune up then ya winter cold will make the car run like crap cold. All older cars exhibit this. THe sensors also are older and the colder weather will be noticed in the crappier response due to the current will not flow as well on old wires and sensors until warmed up a bit..(good example of this is actually speakers do not sound/respond as good at freezing temperature until the coils warm up from movement. I was told when I was doing recording engineering and live band setup outdoors 20 years ago to slowly warm up with volume, amps and speakers before the band went on to protect the equipment).
