Car Wont Start

I've searched and done some reading on and read the answers that others have posted i have a similar problem as
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/my-90-rx7-will-not-turn-over-start-starter-itself-fine-823833/
i have an 88 gxl automatic i've replaced the starter, tested my alternator, ground, and all the wires to and from the battery. i do have an anti theft in my car but the wire colors are all wrong. i believe the example was a s5.

the problem started one night after a rough start the RPMs were fluttering about up to about 1300 and down to about 1,000. this stopped when i pressed the gas picked up again at idle. i drove home w/o further problems. next morning it wouldn't start and hasn't since.

i can turn the key and the fuel pump kicks on, but nothing happens i i just hear a faint click from the ignition switch, not from the engine compartment. no click of starter or anything just my fuel pump. i had my starter tested along with my battery and alternator and they were fine, but i replaced my starter cause we though that the solenoid was bad. however new starter in everything hooked up correctly and tight and nothing.

i took out my starter cut relay tonight and accidentally turned the key to acc (forgot i had taken it out) and my starter winds up but doesn't engage, i turned it over and the starter stopped. so i think my problem is something in my relay... i have a large blue, med blue, large black/yellow small black yellow and a small white/black wire going in and out of it... and as i said i have a theft device in my car i've locked the door, unlocked it and nothing changed. im pulling my hair out here for the last week trying to figure this out.

also i have a single brown wire coming off my starter that should of had a fuse connecting it with its other half that was either cut or the connector broke off (looks recent) but i can't find anything it goes to.

also that night or the night before my AC belt disappeared, i didn't hear it snap or break or no banging/clucking, so i don't know for sure how long it was off. i replaced the belt and i noticed a small black wire that was rubbed through the coating. but the wire itself is intact. i can turn the engine over by hand, so i know its not seized. my fuses are good, though i am going to replace the main ones, once i get my car running again.

please help

the winding up ended up being a fan i couldn't see. i tested my starter cut relay and i wiggled a bunch of my wires around and it started once, we let it run for a few min shut it off and now it wont start up again, just click click click from somewhere behind the engine (can't see it) or under the dash can't tell. we wiggled all the same wires again and still in click click click mode.

im begining to think its my ignition switch but my friend (does electrical work on cars) thinks its a loose connection or just a bad relay somewhere

any help or advice or something to look for would help a lot

thanks

Is the battery fully charged? Does it start in Neutral? Do you have proper grounding? (Negative Battery cable to block, starter to bell housing). It may also be your ignition switch, infact the last thread the it was the guys ignition switch.

Heres a link to the thread

Karack made the suggestion that fixed his problem.

i got it working, thanks for the link i had red that post 100 times but just reading again helped me out. i had to replace my ground wire (was exposed and was against the frame and for some reason wasn't allowing the starter to start. im guessing the one time it did start we wiggled it enough w/o knowing that it moved.
