Silver box looking-thingy behind the air filter box, in the intake run...Should have an electrical plug on the side of it...Sometimes they get loose and cause all kinds of problems. Should also have a small metal clip that secures it in place...

I have similiar problems, I have a GXL and it like to sit there while I crank it over a few dozen times, then it starts, and doesn't like to idle right, it will jump from 750 rpms to 2000 rpms. I just had the motor replaced 40k miles ago, but the jack-*** person that did it was a vergin to mazdas. I will have to undo what that person did. if I find anything wrong I will try to help as much as possible.

when the car is driving, everything is running fine? no bogging at light, medium, or wide open throttle?
