car wash screwed up my car?

I was too lazy to wash the car myself so I did an automated carwash and left the car running while I was in there. Afterwards my car started acting real funny. It wouldn't build boost as fast as it use to. The exhaust sounded quiter and it ran kind of rough. While going home I had to drive up a real steep hill. The car was blowing all sorts of smoke out the exhaust. After that the car barley seemed to idle and my vacuum was at 5. I had to go up another hill to get home. The car boosted but slowly. So I get it home and let it sit for a while and it still acted funny but I was getting a vacuum of 17 again. Now the car idles at 1500 instead of 700 and it boosts slowly. I checked for vacuum leaks by using an air compressor and a homemade cap to put on the turbo intake. After feeling around all the hoses I couldn't feel any of them bleeding. So it there something electrical that could have gotten screwed up?

Could be anything. Check especially for water around the TPS area, and the coils.

Lemme understand something....you did a standard carwash and it did this? As in, no lifting the hood and spraying the engine bay?

How the heck did a carwash do this?!

most automated car washes will do an undercarage spray which if you do not have an under belly pan can completly spray the motor

Cold water + hot engine = messed up metal expansion. Dunno if that would do anything too serious though...

Except you get the coolest "How did you blow your motor thread" post!

Guy1: Boosting 16psi
Guy2: Overheated.

actually this was months ago and I still can't find the problem. It now runs a mid to high 14 instead of a mid 13 1/4 mile. It will boost 10 psi and pull pretty decent in second gear, but I don't get full boost till 3500 rpm, could the turbo just have crapped out? It has a tiny bit of side to side play. It will spin counter clockwise pretty easily, I can't get it to spin like a skateboard wheel, but then again I don't know how freely its supposed to spin.

I thought the engine is supposed to be louder on a blown engine. When I'm not boosting you can feel it has a pretty good bit of power down low. Its so frustrating.

Honestly gentlemen. If a carwash could blow his engine, nobody would be safe to drive in the rain any more.

ok, I'm an idiot. What am I looking for here?

My injectors look red... that is n/a right? I grabbed a spare one and it was orange so I am lost.

the car is an 87 with an s5 motor and 88 ecu. I have no clue about the injectors... it runs super rich.

does my car even have a resistor pack? Was that just something for the late 87 up or pre late 87?

I think it's 87.5 and back. Of course, I've popped the hood on my car and sprayed it down before at the car wash and didn't have any problems, so I don't think it's the carwash.

Im with him. Ive washed my engine numerous times on several cars while running and NEVER had a problem....well...with the exception of a busted distributor cap, but that was on a 4 cyl. engine, as well as my dad. I really dont think the car wash had anything to do with it...maybe just coincidence (sp?).

I ran my car through the wash a few weeks ago and chose the super wash. I pulled in slow so the thing could spray the botom of the car. by the time I got to the stop plate it was dead as a door nail. Sat in the was till it was finished and had to push the car out. Popped the hood and let the Mississippi son do its thing and it fired right up after about 15-20 min. This was not the first time this has happened, the last was in the manual wash when I tried to clean the motor, after that it wouldnt crank and I had to pop the clutch to get it going.

Under my dash is a wiring nightmare. Who ever had the car before me self installed the alarm and everything else. When it rains my alarm light starts flashing and so does my shift up light. Then the windshield wipers will start going out of nowhere.

One of my main problems I found out was my car was running way too rich and I might have gsl-se injectors. I disconnected my HKS F-CON and my FCD and took it for a drive. I set my boost controller to 10psi just to see what happend. So right now my old mods are these injectors and a walbro. The car pulled hard just like it use to. Funny thing, 10psi at 6k and no fuel cut... wonder if my ecu is modded too. The only negative effect was it bumped my idle to 1800. It just keeps getting higher.
