Car turns on and stays at 4K!

I was trying to get my Microtech to sync up to my lap top with no sucess then I turned the ingnition on and heard some strange noise under the hood. Now everytime I turn on the car it keeps the revs at 4,000. Any ideas?

Usually when that happens its because the throttle cable needs to be adjusted.

check that your throttle cable is in perfect working order... no kinks or frays... make sure the gas pedal inside is free from obsticales ... make sure the throttle cable is adjusted correctly... make sure the air screw and/or throttle plate set screw is adjusted correctly... look for vaccum leaks

Does anyone have a link on how to make sure my throttle cable is adjusted alright. This is probably a long shot but does anyone have a pic of one set up the right way?

If the throttle can fully rest, then the cable shouldn't be holding it open.
Take off the throttle body elbow and look if the plates are closed, pretty easy.

make sure that the throttle body is closing all the way some times the linkage gets stuck on mine. just see if the butterfly's are a little bit open.

These are rather basic automotive repair steps... I suggest the purchase of a FSM(factory service manual) to assist in any maintenance procedures... or take your car to a mechanic
