Exclamation

I have had a Intake man leak before!
yes it whistles very loud...
you hit the gas..and it go's away right?
then when it idles it comes back?
well ill tell you i tracked it down in 5 minutes useing slicone spray around the intake...you can take some gasget maker and slow or stop it..I did for a temp fix...but it will just want to suck it into the motor..So it might not be Bright! Just take the UIM off and stick some gasget maker on it and slap it back on!

Like everyone has been saying, the easiest and best way to find any kind of leak in you intake system is to... Cap your intake and PRESSURIZE the system! any leak will hiss. A good intake should hold the pressure for a few secs. A bad one and the air will woosh out somewhere...that the problem

Yep, Im getting that whistling sound around the passenger side of the engine. I think it might be the UIM but Im not sure. When I cover the intake with my hand, I hear a hissing sound so I definitely have a leak. Damn, finding and fixing all these vac leaks is annoying.

Have you tried using a mechanic's stethoscope (rubber tubing) to locate the sound? Im going to try that and see if that helps.

On a side note, where is the brake booster line?

I get a delayed whistling on decel depending on how much boost I am coming off of after the BOV vents. I did not have this issue until I put the greddy type S on my intercooler piping (greddy vspec). I look right at the bov after I left off throttle and tons of air is still coming out and the whistling is coming from all the air still being pushed through while the bov is trying to close. I'm thinking this is because of the extended piping. I had to set the bov alot harder to tone down the whistle but if I set it any harder it has trouble venting under low boost levels.

EDIT: I should not the bov is fairly new. It only whistles on decel when the bov vents.

Date people, look at the damn date.

As an update, I rebuilt the engine a few months back and in the process found his whistle. HIs LIM wasnt sealed up at the block. There was a chunk of original gasket material left on the block by the intake port, and there was a new gasket for the LIM applied on top of that, so on that one corner it could not seal, and thus it whistled, and made it idle poorly. I have seen more than 1 LIM to block leak cause an odd whistle.
