Car starts -Then dies

89NA Auto car starts revs to 3k runs for maybe 5-10 seconds then dies. I can start it right back up and it does the same. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Man, this happens every other day with us...
I guess first thing to do is jumper the yellow two-pin plug near the airbox, and see if it fixes it...If it does, you've got a bad AFM door switch...If it doesn't, get back with us, we'll be here

WAYNE88NA or others, I tried the jumper wire and it did the same thing- start up idle around3k for a few seconds then die. Man i just have no clue. allforjesus06- I have replaced or serviced everything in the big scheduled maintanance including TPS new manifold gaskets and hoses(all). The coils, MAF, CAS, MOP-that kind of stuff is original.

For $hits and grins, do what I told Harley to do in another post- put a jumper wire between the B/W and Blue wire terminals on the bottom of the circuit opening relay (below the steering wheel), see if that helps...The wire colors might be different on the S5's, so be aware of that...

Should be a yellow harness plug with two pins near the right strut tower, behind the airbox...When jumpered, it gives the pump relay its ground when the AFM door doesn't, due to failure. Use it for troubleshooting only,do not leave it jumpered to drive around...

I don't think it would fire at all if that were the case....
then again, I'm not an expert on alarm systems

You S4 or S5? Are the S5 plugs different colors guys?

There should also be a green one in the same vicinity.

Sometimes they get shoved down near the AFM.

Greg- How did the alarm system disable the car? Did it allow it to even start?

I'm S5, but I'm 107 miles away from my car at the moment.
I remember the green connector, but if there's a yellow one, it's stuffed out of my sight, cause I didnt' even see it when i tore out my airbox

If you hold the gas for a about 15 secs, and then let off, does it idle?

You guys and your idles, j/k...

Has everyone adjusted their idles per the FSM???

The green 3-pin plug is for the TPS adjustment (in the FSM), using the test lights, or a meter (or two)...

for sure? recently my car was doing the same thing on my fresh rebuild, and 3 guys came to help me find the prob. we ran some new vac hoses and i had forgotten to plug up a neutral safety thing... i don't know the proper name for it, but we just worked on it some with the UIM off, and bam it was fixed. it could be the AFM, but don't just single everything out...
