car starts, runs for 5 seconds and dies.. need help.

ok so i am driving around enjoying my car not hesitating over 3800 rpms.. ahhh... so i notice that my gas is getting real low (right on the E) so i pull off to get some gas. i fill up at citgo with 93 and walk over to the autozone (right next door) and buy some tcw3(or whatever its called) two stroke premix. i start the car up before the premix to make sure everything is cool.. the car starts and idles for about 2 or 3 seconds, then fuel cuts off and the car dies. i can immediately start it back up and the same thing happens... someone help...

Check ur TID and make sure it's nice and snug... maybe it got knocked loose? I had mine off before and the car was acting the same way.

Check your AFM for voltage. Maybe the TPS.

my car wouldn't idle perfectly at 800 rpms if either of those things were bad...

but it doesn't idle perfectly, now does it?

Hey, you asked for advice, you don't want to listen to advice, then fix the problem and tell us how to fix it.

Can you get any RPM by holding teh throttle?

1. Yes, it does idle perfectly for 3 seconds, then dies.

2. What? I forgot to add that the car idles fine before fuel cuts out. Did you add anything to this thread before i started "not listening to advice" ? And who says I'm not listening to anyone's advice anyways?

3. Yeah, I can get the engine to any RPM i want for 3 seconds. Hell, I could redline it for three seconds if i wanted to.

Idleing for 3 seconds isn't a perfect idle. It's not even an idle. Jeez.

Right off hand it sounds to me that the AFM isn't signalling that the engine is running, and not actuating the fuel pump.

Have you tried jumping the yellow wire on the passenger side? That forces the fuel pump to run no matter what the AFM tells it.

no i havent... where is that wire? i thought it was a plug that i had to jumper... is it on the passenger side on the front or back? (like in the engine bay or the hatch) that sounds like it could be my problem..

Wow, so I guess I added something to the thread, huh?

Think about that next time.

Yellow connector, passenger side of the engine bay, near the strut tower. Jumper it, put power to the car, and listen at the back for the fuel pump to run. If the pump runs, leave it for a minute, then try to start the car.

Also, could be clogged fuel filter.

i dont really understand.. if the AFM isnt sending the signal to the fuel pump, why would it run smoothly for 3 seconds? unless the engine doesnt USE the afm until it can sense how much air is getting in or something...?

Just give it a try and see. You have to start eliminating problems. Do you have a fuel cut switch? I had a similar problem and turned out that the connections on my fuel cut switch were bad. Definitely seems like your not getting fuel. Have you changed the fuel filter? Also, you said you were on "E" so maybe you picked up some **** from the bottom of your fuel tank and now your fuel lines/pump/filter are clogged where it won't let enough fuel through to keep the car running. Just some ideas. Might wanna try adding some fuel system cleaner to it. Also I believe theres a filter on your fuel pump. You can get to that and see if its clean or not I guess.
