Angry Car starts but slowly dies

well i just finished putting my project car together. there was alot of pieces missing from the shell i bought, so the problem could be a missing sensor, im fairly sure its not though. I put in a streetported S4 n/a. I pulled it from a parts car a couple months ago, it runs really good (aprox 50,000km) also have RB headers+presilencer combo.

ok now for the problem. at first the car wouldnt start at all. that was caused by a weak battery. after i got that fixed it started but died. sometimes it would rev to 3k and die, other times it would rev abit higher and allow me to add gas. the end was still the same... no steady idle. i checked all the vac lines, everything seems good. all the wires seem to have proper placement. for the first few tries i ran no catback, but it was getting a little loud for the area so i had to add a catback(not everyone loves the sound of a 13b like i do =p) im really puzzled with this one. I spent some time searching and am taking notes for next time i work on the car. Any additional help would be greatly apperciated though. Thanx.

Sounds like it could be an air or vacuum leak. Check the intake path for an air leak past the AFM and while you're at it, make sure the AFM is plugged in. Recheck the vacuum line connections, and if the engine will run long enough, spray a fine mist of water around the vacuum line connections.

i have the same problem with my turbo II. If i rev the rpm higher, it would be fine for a while. However if i let go of the gas, it would quickly died.

i feel like sucha dumbass -.- i think i may have put the fuel lines in backwards. looking at the fsm it shows to connect the fuel filter line to the inlet close to the firewall and the return line is the one closer to the front of the car ... i have it the otherway around *sigh* im gonna switch them and wait try to get a battery again.

other then that, ive already double checked all the vac lines im pretty confident its not that, i know that somethings like the "boost" sensor are missing but it will run w/o a boost sensor. and im missing some ground i think (mainly form the bell housing)

w/o throttle the car would start increase rpm till about 3k and as soon as it hit 3k would go back to 0 almost at the same speed.

w/ throttle it would hit 3k and kinda bounce but would die eventually

well i changed the fuel lines to like the fsm said ... but no matter how hard i tried, i couldnt get it to fire. confused i tried switching the lines back to how i had them and it fired up on the first try

i made some adjustments it now starts and wants to run, but at around 1700rpm it bogs and dies... but im able to keep the engine alive by keeping the rpm above 2k. old fuel might be a problem... im going to get some fresh gas when i can. but is there anything else??

Fuel is good for quite a long time, check ur AFM per workshopt instructions..

OK I looked at ur post history, and it seams that u installed a S5 interior into a S4. My question is did u use the S4 wiring harnesses or the S5 and S4...???
If so are u shure that everything pluged in right undur the dash....

s4 harness's were used, everything is plugged in. the engine was running a few months ago but in a different shell. the afm and bac should still be good. they were pretty much untouched and ran not to long ago. i played around with the idle screw to raise the idle speed (thought it would help a little) fuel filter im unsure about since it came with the shell. same goes for the gas in the tank and the fuel lines. im leaning towards something to do with fuel delivery, im going to pick up a new fuel filter 2moro as well as a battery (dont wanna borrow anymore)i'll see how it goes from there.

well timing cant just change by itself, the engine ran prefect maybe 6 months ago but in a different car. im going to check all the vac lines again.

i just noticed that the o2 sensor wire was broken... would that make the car die @ idle though??
