Car smoking at high RPM
Hey guys,
I got an 86 RX-7. When I first bought the car everything was ok, it would smoke a bit at the start. A week later I started noticing that when I floor it and bang through the gears, clouds of white smoke come out after each shift. There is also a lot of smoke coming out when you take it to high rpm and release the gas. I did put fuel injector cleaner in the car when I got it, but could that really be the problem? Any ideas would be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance.

Your oil control rings are most likely gone. These rings tend to become destroyed from overheating / lack of proper oil changes /atf in the engine.
What is happening is that when you bring up your engine rpm, you increase the oil pressure. This increase in pressure allows the oil to seep past the oil control rings and into the combustion chamber, where it is burnt.
The only solution is a rebuild.
Your engine will last for many more miles to come, possibly even more so b/c of the extra lubrication the combustion chamber receievs, but the problem is only going to get worse.
This is the most likely answer.

How many miles are on the car? Worst case scenario your rotor oil seals are shot and the engine would need to be rebuilt. Could also be a coolant issue. This smoking on startup, is it all the time? does it smoke more and heavier the longer you let it sit before starting it? What color is the smoke? A very light blue tint to it would indicate that it is oil burning. Well, does that help?

Yes I would say the smoke is white with blue.
There are 128k miles on the body, brand new factory engine was put in and there is 60k on it. I would say the car eats a quart of oil every 100 miles. There is a little smoke on start up, and it gets better once it warms up. If I don't drive the car hard, it doesnt really smoke at all. Compression is good and engine runs very strong. Could it be the coolant? The oil seal scenario sounds pretty scary. I also bought the car from a guy who said he took care of it, and had all the receipts, I guess he was lieing.

I have this same problem, but I have a rebuild with less than 6500 miles on it. My symptons are the same as Izmas, but the more I lean it out, the less smoke there is. But until I can afford dyno time I don't want to go that lean. I hope it is a fuel mixture problem not a new motor with bad seals.
I am going to change the fuel filter and run some really good gas and fuel system cleaner. I am hoping it is just dirt from the engine swap.
Anyone have any advice? Is it possible for this new of a motor to kill the oil seals.

I have about the same issue with 91 RX-7 Non turbo but it also has high oil pressure over 60 PSI and up to 110 with dummie sound buzzing at me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to check compression now and coolant compression but the High oil pressure is bothering me I just have no idea. I will update soon.
update to this >>>> burnt and and wet oil on the plugs guessing its done for do i need to rebuild or swap????
