Car in shop now, Transmission questions!
OK so my 86 GXL is in the shop. The trans had to be rebuilt, and after it was rebuilt it started making an awful lot of noise. luckily for me, it's under warranty and the garage is honoring that warranty.
Anyway, they want to start all over with a new trans. Not new necessarily, just a different transmission. I know that later transmissions were much stronger (89+, say a GTU model)
Will one of those fit on my car with no modifications?
if so, I can tell the shop to look for one of those and I could get rid of the notoriously weak 86 NA trans.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
The 89-91 5sp will bolt up no problems as long as you have the 89-91 crossmember to go with it.
FWIW I have one with a bad 5th gear synchro Ill sell for $100. It drove adn run great other than grinding each shift to 5th.
THe 89-91 trans. is not any stronger than the 86-8 AFAIK.,

Unfortunately for you the trans shop is replacing everything under warranty. So I pay nothing!
higgi: I don't have deep enough pockets for a TII flywheel and clutch. oh well!
