On any >15 year old car, the price is more related to condition than year or model.

www.KBB.com will give you some reference values.

www.edmunds.com They have real world pricing based off of car sales and registrations (unlike kelly blue book).

This is an international internet forum, and "bay area" could apply to thousands of locations.

FYI: An asking price of $4000 usually means you can buy it in the $3000 range.

Yes

I have found KBB to be accurate for the 2Gen RX-7, but not so much for the 1Gen and 3Gen RX-7.

Try the for sale section. Might be able to find a good deal there or at least see what 7s are going for on this forum.

Just buy the car from a local dealer that will guarantee that it will pass the smog inspection. If you just contact a few of them and tell them your price range and what you are looking for, I am sure that you will get several phone calls in the next couple of weeks, if not days.

OK, so please explain what about the KBB is not realistic (in the case of a 87-92 RX-7).

I bought my 1989 GTU for $2500 with 124k about a year ago and it has had very few problems. I would suggest getting a 1989-1991 if you can because they have more power than the 1986-1988 models. Beware of the 1989 models with the paint flaking off paint, it will keep coming off. Mine was repainted 2 months before I bought it and appears to have been repainted properly.

If you want something like that you will have to build it because you don't want to pay 3000 dollars and then pay for a rebuild 1200. If you want to buid it look for the cheapest with no body damage or look for the best priced with low miles. I wouldn't get an rx7 unless your planning on getting a GTU or a turbo 2, however many people will tell you that turbos are hard to work on or that there complicated but they would be wrong they are easier to work on then N/As and the only thing I would worry about is vac lines replace every one of those and you'll be straight. I got a shell from Jack's auto for 200 with no body damage and perfect paint and interior and It will cost me 900 to get a motor and tranny because of hook ups so look everywhere don't leave any place over looked whether its a salvage yard or a run down dealership. I found two while looking for a beater for a friend imagine my surprise when I saw those things.
