Car not Starting. Help.

My 88 N/A 5 speed intermittenly doesnt start. For a couple days it is OK and a couple days it wont start, When not starting, you turn the key and just hear the circuit opening relay under the dash click and nothing else.

I Have: Swapped starters, bypassed the interlock switch, and bypassed the starter cut relay. Nothing.

Is this connected to the alarm system? If so, wouldnt bypassing the starter cut relay solve this?

This sux not knowing if the car will start or not. Help!

Brian

Did you test the battery? Sounds stupid I know but sometimes the obvious is over looked.

Not the battery. Everything lights up, and the click click from the circuit opening relay. If it was a battery connection problem, there would be no noise from the relay.

Have you checked the battery cables, good ground, and battery connections? If it is a loose ground you will be able to run the lights and everything fine, but when you put a high amperage load on the system it will crap out.

Battery cables. Replace them.

Could also be the actual key switch in the steering column.
