That S5 GXL is tons better than that 4 lug S4 with even more miles. If you can do a clutch. You can do a 5 speed conversion. Buy a parts car. Take the tranny parts for your swap. Sell parts off the car and it pays for itself. All the 5 speed parts will bolt right up. Order a set of brackets from V8kllr or make your own. And you're done! I did it in the exact same car with a TII drivetrain (doesn't match as well) and it was easy. Just time consuming. Maybe a day or two tops. You traded a $2500 car for a $800 car.

to seriously get into a car get into the mindset that you ARE going to do all your own work. never take your car to a shop, unless you absolutely need the car for work or something and it is important.
the 1st mod that should be done on any car is all basic maintenance and extensive tune up, as outlined by the FSM. your first purchase should be the FSM (you can download it as well). take your time and do every single thing listed in the basic maintenance section, as they have probably been neglected in an old car.
alot of people take for granted the skills they developed over time working on the car... for instance getting the car up on jackstands is a bit of a trial the very first time you do it. there is also a heavy investment in tools and **** (jack, jackstands, full toolset) that many people take for granted. just getting started expect to spend a couple hundred at least on tools and jack, then maybe another couple hundred as you go through the basic maintenance items that need repair and replacement. 5spd swap is far beyond your capacity as an automotive noob with (probably) no tools or jacks, etc.
basic maintenance can coincide with some basic repairs... for instance you might get aggressive pads when you do your first brake overhaul. when you change your air filter, don't get a intake kit. research and fabricate it yourself. when you change out your tranny fluid upgrade to better fluid like redline, etc. expect to run into problems. getting out stripped/rusted/seized bolts is a real skill in itself that can sometimes take some creative troubleshooting.
anyway, good luck to you... its a fun (but expensive hobby). just don't forget to enjoy driving the damn thing too!

well i have done all basic maintenance myself. oil change, plugs, wires, brakes, atf, window repaired. dadada, whatever whatever. its just the hassle of dealing with finding parts, or even a parts car, which at the moment i cant get because of bills, and a fine my little brother was caught fr stealing a toy car in the store. stupid things like that keep coming up and i seriously, honestly do not have time or the money to do the 5spd swap myself. let alone saving up for someone else to do it. plus with my experience, just beggining to get into cars, i find basic maintenance very simple, but as for bolting on all the stuff and dealing with the differential and all that other stuff, i just dont think im willing for that right now. i figured i would start over with this car. i will get more familiar with a manual tranny than a more complex automatic(the tranny) i just think its easier for me to deal with. considering what im going through right now. plus the fear of me screwing somehting up doing the swap myself. id just rather not risk any more costs.

i think the title i gave this thread then i first got the auto fc doesnt apply to me anymore. not cause i have a manual now, just cause im kinda more familiar with cars. not jesse james familiar, more like takumi fujiwara familiar

I wonder why any sportscar in any shape or form comes in automatic.... reason? filthy rich people who don't wanna learn to drive stick. You gotta appeal to everyone in the car market i guess. Automatic Ferraris, V8 Stangs, rx-7s... doesn't quite roll off the tongue does it?

Yes it is pretty hard or well not going to happen with just bolt on items anyways. At least thats the way it looks from those trying to do so. I have not personally seen any dyno sheets for it but there are some members which have been pretty close... There's a thread on the same page as this one talking about 200hp n/a.

Hope that helps.

okay im gonna get paid soon and ill have $300 to spare on my n/a s4. other than the basic stuff, plugs/wires and oil change.(maybe more basic stuff i should know about?) but other than that im guesstimating ill have $200 for somthing else. anyone have any suggestions on what i should do. what i plan for my car, which is completely stock right now, (other than my hi-tech ghetto air box cap off intake kit)i wanted to get a new exhaust system, flywheel, clutch set, headers, and i guess pretty much your typical bolt-on stuff, including suspension, an s5 body kit and tII hood is there anything worth spending $200 on or should i hold it for something else?

i bet u could run lowi 15s with intake, headers, highflow midsectoin/cat, catback exhaust, short shift kit, pullies and an e-fan, assuming u do some weight reductoin as well.
those r the mods im planning on doing and hoping to break into the 15s with my 18inch wheels and loaded-with-electronics interior.

well... maybe thats an overstatment. the car runs a flat 16 brand new and stock right? well...my cars got an A'pex N1 catback exhaust, Centerforce Clutch, and 18x8/18x10 inch rims. Last time I was at the track i ran a consistant 16.8
some of this has to do with my driving skill, but i think the wheels slowed me down a lot...
hopefully u can use that as a point of reference tho?
