There are tons here in Salt Lake. I know of a '86 SE that the guy will let go for like $100. And yes S4 tranny parts will fit fine. My car has a S4 TII trans in it.

my cars throttle response is horrible. is this a usual problem with the automatic transmission? cause theres a lot of lag and doesnt really accellerate very well. maybe its just me but a matrix spanked me at a light. i know automatics are bad but are they this bad? i really need to sell this car and get a 5 speed. but if i cant sell it for that much maybe i should keep it and just build on it for awhile, maybe even convert it myself. how hard is it to do the automatic/manual swap? ive never done any serious work to my car just, just the basic tune up n whatever. is this doable for anyone with decent knowledge of car know how or do i need someone with proffesional experience to do this. im sick of trying to find a way to sell this for my price ($2000) but never really works out. plus i cant save money cause of school and books and bills now. i hate it i hate it i hate it!11!! how much difference does the manual tranny make anyway? i need some real help with this guys. at least some very good opinions from you all, who im sure know more than i do. bwt, whats a good site to get fc parts?

Do the 5spd swap, and maybe your 5th and 6th ports aren't working, or are wired opne. Could be clogged cats, weak spark plugs, so on and so forth

i put in new spark plugs and wires when i first got the car, and thats about it. improved it a bit. what are certain things i can do to at least improve my accelleration. cause i know for sure its not supposed to be this slow. at a red light it accelerates very slow, say about 5 seconds to 20mph then sometimes it shifts really rough and picks up well. this is usually the case. and other times it just accellerates slowly, maybe 7 seconds to 30mph. im just giving rough estimates. anyone know whats up?

I can't belive how many people are telling you to do a 5 speed swap as if it's as easy as putting in a cold air intake on. First of all, if you're going to have a shop do it its gonna cost A TON. And if ur as much of a noob as u sau y are then no way are u gonna be able to pull it off urself (no offence intened...i dont tihnk i coould do it either) You can pick up a nice N/A S5 5speed for under $2000. No way is it worth all the money/trouble of putting a 5 speed that ur gona have trouble getting more than 200hp out of. And if ur switching cars get a TII. I have an 89 N/A 5 speed and its decently quick, not exactly eyeball-sucking performance, but its okay. but there IS a reason that auto-to-manual is not done that often. Esp. on a car this cheap.

p.s. i know i sound like an a-hole here but im just trying to help.....

lmao i saw your intention bro no prob lol. thanks for the advice though. everyone has been recommending the swap but i didnt know if i should get some people to help or to pay to get it done. it was... is, a bit trouble soe trying to find out what to do but i always came to the conclusion of selling mine for another one. which is probly what i WILL do after i save enough and sell my car and i WILL be getting a tII. but for NOW i dunno what to do with my car. its kinda boring driving this sumb*tch...

There was nothing to it. It just takes time. A N/A shaft will bolt right up. the tranny bolts right up. The flywheel comes off easily if you use the stock counter. Everything is there for the clutch slave and pedal. The only problem is mounting it. I did it in 11 hours and it was my first time. And a 5 speed swap is so worth it. One less automatic on the streets. And My automatic got whipped by a tempo in the quarter mile.

exactly what tools to i need to pull off this 5spd conversion, if everything is bolt, on i think i can manage with the help of a knowledgeable friend. i wanna do this with the car parked behind my house. we have a small lot so im hoping it can be done there without some kinda car lift or whatever. at least not too big of one.

I did mine on jack stands. IT will take a few days if you are lucky and pace yourself. No specail tools really. Everything will bolt up. I used the auto crossmember and these two brackets I bought off another member here. He charged $75. The craftsmanship was shitty and it didn't line up perfectly. But it worked just fine.

$600 just for labor or the parts? btw how much a difference does the t2 tranny make from the standard na tranny? i checked and i can get all assembly parts for $200 but thats without a tranny. if labor is that cheap i would definately do it.

You will have to rent and/or buy several hundreds of dollars worth of tools. Then hope to god you did a good job because there is no warranty or guarentee when you do the work.
My recommendation would be to check your tranny fluid, if it's not burnt change it, and hopefully it'll run better. Then just put up with this car till you can afford the one you want.
OR put this car up for sale and find a 5spd.

im about to trade my car for a manual s4(163k miles), mines an auto s5(148k miles). just before i do so, whatre the advan/disadvantages of each model? what area is the other better in or whatever. just things i should know. or if having a manual is better than an auto regardless of what the difference is and that if i should just do it even though that car needs a bit of work done, as in the driver door handle+key hole(easy fix?) and the condition of the whole interior. carpets in tact but its all messy... i want an all black interior though, its blue... whats the cheapest way to do this?

well....... instead of doing the swap, i just traded my car for an s4 manual. and god damn theres a huge *** difference. theres this wheezing sound when i drive it though, im not used to driving a manual so im not familiar with it yet but he said it was just the engine sounds from the hole where there is a missing center console frame. anyone know what this could be?

Oh my god. I can't believe you did that. A 5 speed swap is a piece of cake. I don't know why they were scaring you. Get your S5 back!
