car issues

im looking into buying a 1988 mazda rx-7. the guy im buying it from was able to get it running for a while when he got it. he said that it would start and run for a few second then shut off. i was looking at it and turned the key over and im not hearing the fuel pump start up and the start doesn't want to turn over. battery had a good charge.

what am i looking at as far as repairs and expensis to get it running? what could be wrong with it? what kind of maintenence does a rotory motor need?

You're trying to buy a car that doesn't run well?

BTW, I've got a bridge I'd like to sell to you...

Uh, I don't get the sarcasm lol. Hes probably getting it for next to nothing...

I'd take the fuel pump out and jump it with the battery to see if thats the problem. If its not that then probably something electrical.

If the buyer has a clue on how to fix, this isn't a problem.
The fact that he's (she's?) asking us HOW to fix the car is looking like a disaster.

I get it now, thanks. Btw scratch what I said earlier about the fuel pump, for some reason I thought you said the fuel pump wasn't turning on. Theres a million things that can cause a no start problem, google it and do it step by step. Check for spark and fuel. Put a screwdriver on a plug wire (not too safe lol) and watch for sparks when someone else turns the key. Unbolt the fuel rail and check for fuel when someone turns the key. Check the clutch safety switch, oil on the plugs, etc. etc....
