Car help....

Hey, new here. Just buying (back) an 89 RX7. Looking for some good mods to do on a shoe string budget, and also, got a problem. Seems that when you try to turn on the headlights, they won't come on. The parking lights do. Fuse is good, any ideas? Any commolnly encountered problems with the deadlights?

I believe there is a headlight motor fuse in the engine bay, check that

MAKE SURE to get your fullllll tune up done BEFORE you start spending money on 'mods'

intake and exhasut is always the best place to start I find. any weight reduction you can aswell...

Yep, and Jono said, a proper 60K tune up should be done before any money is spent on mods- and if the car has more than 100K miles I would also replace the PD and the coolant hose under the oil filter.

Between the tune up (which would include all fluids (such as tranny, rear end, clutch, brake, coolant, engine oil) spark plugs, sparkplug wires, all belts, all filters (including air, oil, fuel & in tank fuel filter sock), and the PD, and hoses) you would already have spend $300 or so (more if you pay someone to do it)... a big chunk out of anyones mod budget.

as far as the headlights, I would be looking at the fuses, headlight relay, and headlight switch in that order.

Could you please go into more detail on this tune up thing? Does it involve just new fuilds or adjustments to the engine of some sort? Sorry for the n00b questions.

I have rebuilt headlight switches for considerably cheaper than Mazdatrix or the dealer on my webstore.

Probably doesn't need any adjustments if the car is running fine, but I would still check the timing and TPS settings.

Other than that, you would want to change all the belts, fluids (coolant, brake, clutch, oil, tranny, differential), filters (air, fuel, fuel tank sock), spark plugs, spark plug cables, PD (pulsation dampner- tends to fail around 100K miles- leaking fuel all over) and assorted hoses.

You would be surprised at how well one of these cars runs with all those in good condition.
