Car dying when coming to a stop
Car dying when coming to a stop
I was at the beach today and left the beach and pulled up to a stop light.
Put in the clutch and was in 1st gear waiting for light to change. Car shut down. I started it up and drove again to the next light, put the clutch in and it died.
Limped it all the way to a gas station and got it towed to my house.
I have no idea what is causing this though, it is not out of gas, its almost full of gas.
It idles fine, i left it running for 10 minutes and it kept running but when i put it back into gear and drove it like 2 meters and stopped it died.
Any ideas? Would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

TPS is likely?
Couldnt be too much related to gas if it idles fine right.
And i doubt it could be the alternator?
what about something to do with the afm?

crazy i had the same exact problem. i adjusted the tps and now all is pretty well. mostly did it right after i started and then took off after a short warm up period. after it got nice and warm it was good.

Ok so i managed to warm up the car.
Took off the intercooler and disconnected the tps plug.
I set the digi to 20k ohm, put one prong in the rear of the plug on the black wire, and one prong on the rear of the plug on the green wire.
I get a reading of 1.93, and it seems to fluctuate between 1.86 and 1.93.
What would that mean?
One thing, by idle on the first resistance check, does idle mean the car running? Or just as it sits .
How do you maniupulate to WOT if you are a one man team?

Ok so i tested the plug and managed to bring it down via the screw to about 1.11 at idle, on green and black. Tested black and red and got 7.09 OHM.
Tested green and black at WOT and got 15.8!?!?
Is my tps most likely gone bad?

Here is my 2 cents worth..I have currently odd voltage values just as you..on my TPS..
It was actually, my throttle cable needed adjustment.. that fixed all problems..even made the TPS kinda within range..
since adjusted throttle cable..no problems..

swapped over a s4 tps from a friend
readings now, 1.20 at idle and 5.6 at WOT
seems to be idling and running better, still a few hesitations, btw that screw that you adjust to the change the resistance... what does that screw really do?
the fast idle screw?

also, it seems now that my stereo stopped working, it turns off and on off and on on its own unless im driving then it stays on, when im idling it goes on off on off
any ideas??

Try changing the ground for the radio (dont ground radio to stock ecu ground, ground directly to chassis) ... Also, for the lead power feed (usually the yellow cable for most after market radios but refer to your manual) try running directly from battery as I have seen the wires get corroded alot on these older cars...
