It's much better to have the wire broken than to have it short out, that would cause a whole set of wierd problems; that cap ties into the main relay,coils, & injectors per the FSM wiring manual

Umm theres like two different caps I think you'll find, one that J-Rat is talking about that bolts to the slave cyl, and one that bolts to the chasis, near the coils, they are two different circuits, the one that bolts to the salve cyl no doubt has alot to do with the oil pressure sensor, since it runs in parralell to it, the other is _probably_ there to supply a more consistant voltage to the coils.

f it makes any difference, my is broken and my oil pressuse gauge works. i donno if it's a s5 thing, because my friends is broken and his oil pressure is negative

I've heard that the one near the trailings coils is to supress noise from the switching between the T1 and T2 coils.

You're looking for a 0.47uF 250V polar cap? http://www.digikey.com. Also Rat (radio) Shack, any local electronics store, old TVs, etc. But any value that is approximate will work fine.

If you're trying to test a cap, you should be able to see it discharge with the voltmeter.
The Haynes manual calls these 'Condensors', and like some have already said, they're to reduce noise in electrical systems. I think the one on the ignition coils is to reduce noise to the tach, and the one on the oil pressure sending unit for the oil pressure guage. When I got my FC, the oil guage condensor was just kind of hanging out in the engine bay, attached to nothing. I didn't know where it was supposed to ground to, so I bolted it to the firewall When I replaced my clutch slave cylinder, I tried to move it, and broke the wire. It didn't make a damn bit of difference
