Can't pass emissions. CA

Ok, I bought the car a couple of weeks ago and the owner did not provide a smog certificate. I paid the registration fees without having the smog inspection. And now I can't pass smog. I want to sell the car, is that possible or do i have to do anything else first.

Rx-7s are sorta notorious for not passing emissions. The FAQ has some info pertaining to passing and a trick to pass if you are desperate. Perform regular maintenance on it, change the oil, replace filters, plugs, wires, check your cats, make sure you air pump is working, make sure everything is okay, then try the test again. My 240 wouldn't pass emissions, but a full tune up did the trick and it passed by a large margin afterwards.

In Cali, the seller is responsible for smogging the car prior to sale....NO IF'S, AND'S or BUT'S. Get some money from him so you can pass it. Legal or Illegal. It will be at least $200 the "rotary way".

Check the West forum....(wackyracer can lead you to the promise land.)

Use the chart sm posted and fix the bad component. Note that none of them are the engine. The notorious problem that rotaries have with passing smog lies between the steering wheel and the driver's seat.
